The "That Endura" thread reminded me to post my Delica 4 love that I posted over on the Spyderco Forums...

After a while in this hobby, you find that your collection has morphed and grown, but throughout there are some knives that you love to use consistently. For me, that knife is the Delica 4. I've had a Delica on me non-stop all summer, so for about a third of the year it has been and will be my go-to carry knife. I can fancy it up for the winter and the weekends, but during the week, and in the heat, it's the D4 all the way. Because of this, I decided that my collection needed a pragmatic face-lift, so I got rid of the "middle ground" knives that aren't either higher end EDCs or workhorse FRN knives. At this point, if it's not getting carried, I don't really enjoy owning it (with a few exceptions, of course ;)).

Normally drilling down to one favorite design would have the disadvantage of limiting your options, never good for a knife knut! Luckily, the D4 comes in plenty of colors and blade styles, so I can have my cake and eat it too! It's not often I get to show off among this crowd, but I figured it'd be fun to share the D4 versions I've managed to compile.

Clockwise from top:
-Tom Sachs Sprint White CE Saber
-Brown PE FFG (Convexed)
-Tan Waved PE Saber (handle from Kahr exclusive, blade swap)
-Teal (Spyderco calls "Gray") Waved SE Saber
-Denim blue Kahr Arms exclusive Saber shortened
-Blue Superblue/clad sprint PE FFG
-Orange PE FFG
-Red SE Saber (handle from trainer, blade swap)
-Grey PE FFG (my first Spydie)

The white Tom Sachs version is the jewel in this little Delica congregation. I got it NIB for less than MSRP off the bay not too long ago, so sometimes it just pays to be in the right place at the right time :D.

I know I'm missing a few colors, but sticking with the pragmatic theme I really only have interest in owning the ones I'll actually enjoy carrying. That's not to say there aren't a few more variations in my future, but given that these ride IWB I have a strong preference for the stainless blade steels.

Feel free to post some Delica love of your own.

It took me a good long while to get my first Delica....now I use it for most everthing.

A fancier CRK or Spyderco is always clipped to my pocket, but my gorgeous little clipless Delica is ALWAYS riding along in my right front pocket.

Really like the blade swap from the red trainer!

Delica is the perfect EDC for me, especially in summer! Here's a recycled pic:

Nice!
That Red one is mine.
I had on my Orange D4 today. It's all the knife one needs.

The only Delica I have just sit's in a drawer due to significant back and forth play. Hope to pick up another someday see what all the fuss is about.

Must be an earlier version with a pinned pivot? Otherwise you could try tightening the pivot screws. Even a pinned pivot can be peened carefully with a hammer to tighten it. Of all the delicas I've encountered, which includes these, plus 3 more I've either gifted away or sold, I've never seen one with any significant blade play.

The Delica is my favorite knife. Period. I want a Ti model, now, I think.

Fraid not it's a purple 4 it was liquidated goods. Probably was a return the store never sent back for repair.

I had the same urge after liking my original FRN one so much, but I mostly just found out that I really prefer the Delica in FRN, which surprised me. I assumed the G10 one would be even better, and I spent a lot of time hunting one down. When I finally got one I was underwhelmed. The light weight, easy pocket draw, and bidirectional texturing of the FRN handles is unmatched by other materials.

A SE 1st generation Delica was my first single handed opener and whilst other knives tend to get more pocket time than my Delicas, there are just some dirty, wet jobs that the Delicas love and get used for :

SE Delica 3 vs irrigation piping, an unfair contest!

The Titanium Damascus is a beautiful knife , but be aware that the polished Titanium scales get scratched very easily , and if your going to use it , it will look like you've used it very quickly .
The Titanium Damascus was the first Delica I owned and after a short period I stopped using it , not because it wasn't any good , but because the scratches on the scales drove me crazy every time I looked at it .
I bought a ZDP 189 Delica and started using it instead . The FRN handle really surprised me by just how good it was and how good it feels in the hand .
After a while a Gayle Bradley replaced the Delica as my work knife , the Delica became an after hours - weekend knife .
Not long ago I saw my scratched Titanium sitting in the drawer and decided something had to be done , so I stonewashed the scales which removed the scratches and also gave them a surprisingly grippier feel .
I then swapped blades with the ZDP 189 knife to end up with what I think Spyderco should have made in the first place . It is my favourite and best Delica yet .

I would do anything for a super blue delica. I was looking all over online yesterday and refreshing the sale section, and the moment I looked away, one popped up and sold in less than a minute. The search continues.

In the meantime, I'm carrying a vg10 FFG blue version just like the one posted above. Just sharpened with diamond stones, ceramic rod, and stropped on my leather belt and it's biting sharp again :)

Recently on the exchange someone sold the blue jigged bone with damascus blade Delica - at a great low price  That is my grail Spyderco. Really sad I missed that one. I have a Denim blue Kahr Arms now and only that one. I like it very much and keep looking on the exchange for another Delica. There are more in my future.

harronek - your Stonewashed with Damascus blade is a beauty.

Scooped a very gently used SB D4 last night off the forums for $65..had to be lightning quick though. It was only up for a minute. ;)
Got a deep carry clip for it incoming as well..so I guess it's time to look towards the HAP40 sprint.

Yeah - you were the guy in the minute. Good for you - lightning quick indeed :D

I only have one Delica in the collection and unfortunately it's too rare to use.

That's original factory oil on the blade in case you're wondering. :D

The blue Damascus/jigged bone delica is one of my grails too!

So does that mean I'm going to have to fight you for the next one? [emoji14]
