So I seem to have this on almost every model...the parcel hook to carry packages tied up with string and doilies or something...:p

It's sort of useful when they put a nail file on it like the compact model. But I can't think of too many other things to use it for. Untying knots? Maybe could it be used as a wire twist breaker on barbed wire fence? Anyone try that?

Any other uses?

I wondered about it for a couple years until one day on a camping trip it jumped to mind as the ideal thing to lift a hot pot off the fire. Since then, mine has come in handy periodically in fishing a wire out through a hole in a wall on security system installations, and drawing lacing tight on leather projects. I still can't picture a bunch of suits around a table deciding it was a good idea, but it's far from a bad one. by the way powernoodle, that was a great video.

About the Vid...yeah that happens all the time...

Oh Yeah WHYNacht...hot pot lifter...not a bad answer...:)

When you put new strings on a guitar, you should stretch them a bit. I've used my parcel hook as a guitar new string stretcher with good results though I'm still a sucky guitar player.

Arthritis. The hook is a big help both tightening and loosening shoelaces, and for opening knots.

i think its safe to say it works the same, grabbing glasses out of the toilet, grabbing a hot pot by the handle,.... lifting smaller stuff you dont want to touch

It's actually quite useful.

A couple weeks ago I used the one on mine Huntsman to carry a gallon of paint from the supermarket to my apartament (it's a three-mile walk). The wire handle was already hurting my hand after just a couple blocks when I remembered I had that hook on my SAK, It was pretty comfortable and the spring on the hook held up quite well.

save my precious fingers from carrying this heavy package on a small strings for some amount of time that can be considered a torture!
this is why i now very appreciate the hook!

selling SAKs for years I have usually told others as I have used it: To manipulate wire, a wire fence or tinkering projects, and the obvious 5 gallon water/paint bucket handle.

I'll say this the best I've heard is how it is used to zip or unzip your fly.

I've used the hook several times to lift bales of straw and bundles of newsprint bound by wire or twine. Really saves the hand.

holding bails/hot pots/cups,
pulling wire/fence,
holding the pen better (extension),
coat/bag-hanger,
pulling/manipulating thin metal pieces/sheets,
and I've used it for leverage for pulling many other things I could get a grip/hook on.

I'm so glad it's there (I use it often) and it's only limited by your imagination.

I don't use mine often - but I'm still glad it's there. The fact is that there are plenty of tools that you don't have because you have little use for them, then the day comes and you could really use that particular tool - thank goodness for the brilliant multi-tool that is the SAK!

I have used my hook for carrying a couple of grocery bags that were feeling heavy - definitely more comfortable with the SAK as a handle.

I found out that it works really well at the bowling alley to pull up the bumpers alongside the kids' lanes. One of the little boogers always manages to knock the bumper down at least once during a bowling outing. Also works really well to lift a nasty grate out of the BBQ grill for cleaning. I've used the outside part of the hook to install the rubber spacer around window screen frames, when I couldn't find my wheelie.

After a cleaning/ oiling, I hang my Vic on a hanger or thread with the aid of the hook. The excess oil or water drips off with no problems. Great if you don't want to have oils dripping over the dishes in the kitchen.

Have you ever got your fly stuck at the bottom of your zipper? The parcel hook was made for that, which is the only thing i have ever used it for.
