Arthritis. The hook is a big help both tightening and loosening shoelaces, and for opening knots.

yeah but for someone with arthritis wouldnt it hurt to even open the hook

It is an ideal slot to put tha ballpoint pen in (if you have the Plus scales). Open the hook, put the pen in the now free slot, close the hook so it firmly holds in place the pen. You can now write where the whole knife works as a full sized ballpoint pen.

It works!
