that knife you NEVER regretted buying

My two Ken Onion customs that I bought at a New York knife show 7 yrs. ago. I got them from Les Robertson and paid $525.00 each for them. He had about two dozen or so Onions for sale. I wish I had bought them all and he no doubt wishes he never sold them.

SAK Champ
CRKT M16 plain, M18 combo
BM 805 combo
Spyderco C07 plain
Leatherman Wave

Of all the knives/tools I've bought over the years these are the core few that I rotate through regularly and can vouch for in terms of reliability.

Leatherman Wave. Wore it out after years of use...
Now have a Charge. Love it.
No regrets on those at all...

On the other hand, every EDC 4 inch folder I've had I eventually fell out of love with after the initial whirlwind romance...

Kershaw G10/ATS34 developed too much bladeplay...

Spyderco Military (great blade!) had no protection against your hand sliding forward on a thrust... and the lock was too exposed. But for pure utility and never a fighter, that's a great knife.

AFCK... I got the combo edge... and realized later that I hate combo-edges... and the hollow ground doesn't shear through things well... Otherwise, a great handle and lock and blade shape.

Cuda Max.... that dagger style handle is not the most comfortable and it scares the sheeple when I'm cuttin' up an apple at work... but its got the best blade on any folder... 5.5 inch flat ground bowie with no recurve.

Skirmish... great handle, great lock, great steel, great build quality... but not real pointy. Not a good penetrator. Not good for shearing, only slicing. With a little regrinding at the point, its a perfect defense tool. And one of the best factory knives I've seen. The Hummer of pocketknives... solid as a rock.

Wegner Pro hunter. Really a great knife... just kind of... small. If they made one that was 4.5 inch blade, it would be a real winner.

LoneWolf T2. Except for some quality control issues, I thought I found my "final" knive. That's the sharpest knife I've ever had. Great SV-30 blade. Shears like a lightsaber (I assume :) ) penetrates wonderfully. So close to perfect... till the other day when I used pumpkin carving with the kids to test a few knives and found just how easily your hand slips up the handle toward the blade. Kind of like the Military... great utility knife... poor for defense where you may thrust and meet some resistance... by the way, the AFCK completely dominated the "stab the big bad pumpkin test," which will be no surprise to lots of people...

So...

I get to buy a new one! Whoopee! I'm looking around for a large (4 inch, or so, minimum) flat grind folder right now. Not sure what to get, 4 inch Aftermath is looking tasty, but an Al Mar Shrike might find its way into my hands as the search is still being conducted.... flat grind, micarta handle... I got seduced by the photos...

damn, steel addiction is a monkey that just won't get off your back...

I don't regret buying my Tracker.I got a freeeeeeeeeekin sweet deal on it.But my favorite buy is without a dobut my U.S.M.C. Ka-Bar.That knife doesn't owe me anything. It's also the knife that spawned the urge to learn more about knives and eventully leading me here. Thanks Ka-Bar.

Ka-bar, Leatherman super tool, Cold steel master hunter, Tarani folding karambit, Ontario Helles Belle, and my tracker I traded for.

Sebenza (large and small)
Dozier (have the straight hunter and yukon pro skinner)

While they may not win beauty contests, they are completely functional, no-bullshit tools.

Microtech SOCOM M/A, Spyderco Military, Spyderco Calypso jr., Spyderco Endura, Cold Steel Master Hunter, Camillus Heat, Benchmade Mini AFCK. All great knives.

There are many.
One is the Spyderco C15 Terzuola plain edge with alu scales.
Fits perfectly in my hand and pocket.

My CRKT M-16 CF. I bought it. I sold it. I bought it again. I lost it. I found it. I traded it. He lost it. I searched the stores for almost 16 months. I found it. I bought it. I'm keeping it. :D

Spyderco Endura---stainless handle

My 2 Bark Rivers---can't remember the names---but doesn't matter---they're all good

Basic Leatherman

Have tons of other knives---but these are the ones I always come back to.

currently produced Shrikes have G10 handles although you can still find one with micarta. I would prefer G10

Leatherman PST
Spyderco FRN/PE Delica (started my Spydie run :) )
Spyderco Grey/FRN/PE Caly Jr.
BM 556 Mini-Grip
Any of my SAKs
Buck 110/112

For the most part, I've not regretted buying the majority of my collection - just these were ones I've been REALLY glad I got more than the others.
