well, emailed a place, and they said they had a brute. yay. then i called them, to verify, said they had it right there. yay. ordered it not an hour later via their cart.

also ordered a Heat safety version - pretty close to an ideal rope cutting knife, and those won't be made anymore i expect.

got email saying my ordered shipped, and the brute as on back-order. what? called again, "oh, that's on back-ordered for a few weeks now..." - they didn't know that camillus was kinda closed. oops?

perhaps more than one vendor doesn't know this - camillus SEEMS to be answering the phones, they claim, and is saying "stock WILL ship soon". interesting.

so, if there's a favorite shop you like, and they have something you want made by camillus - better get it now. both before they run out, or realize that brutes are selling for $200++ now ;)

hah

I have emailed several places, and very few places even bother to reply.
I placed an order from Surfco a few months ago, they said they had a large order coming. Well, I guess it won't arrive now. I have emailed them several times about taking different Camillus knives, or a refund. They won't answer emails. I hope no one else has an order pending from them.
Don't know my next steps about getting my money back, but will do something.

I just joined this site yesterday to try and find where to get a Becker Companion
in Canada. The first thing I learned since joining was that the company went out of buisiness! I found one Canadian online retailer and ordered one right away. Then I read thier small print that mentioned they don't keep much stock on-hand and might have to order from the company and then ship it out. Rather than wait for an email telling me they can't get one, I snapped one up from Ebay. The
seller originally had 5, when I checked back he had one left. Anyway, I just got home from work and checked my messages. Both knives have shipped out to me today! I feel guilty now that I will have two Companions. Might sell one later.

Bill, welcome to BF.

Guilt? There's no guilt over owning multiple Beckers. You might need a spare down the road.

Bladite owns more Machaxes than anyone I know.

And I stocked up on Magnum Camps for when the zombies come. No better zombie chopper!

Thanks for the welcome Guyon. My feelings of guilt over hoarding Becker's are gone. I am under the impression people here have a lot of knives. The one Companion that isn't being used camping might go on active reserve duty as a brutal kitchen knife!

Good attitude.

If I recall correctly, I have 7 Campanions.

1 user PE with micarta
1 user serrated with micarta
1 spare PE
1 spare serrated
2 Blackjack versions
1 PE project knife (being sanded sloooowwly)

So there... if anyone should feel guilty, it oughta' be me. Now that I think about it, you need 6 more Campanions so I won't have to feel guilty. :D

I'm having Becker Procrastination Regrets.

We all saw the writing on the wall in plenty of time to get any Beckers we wanted. I chose to get a BK11, and even though I wanted a second BK7 and a BK9 & BK10 I chose not to get them "then." I thought about it and I realized I'd never use them (probably) and certainly didn't need them.

Now that I can't get them, at least at the same price point, I'm sorry I didn't just do it!

Snuck in just under the wire. I managed to snag two of everything, from the Bk-1 to the BK-11. Only 1 Extreme though. The user versions all got micarta, and they're going to be used hard over the next few years. I've got one spare of each just in case.

Bill, you can see three of the Campanions there -- PE and serrated users and the project knife which had been stripped and sanded a bit at the time of that photo.

I don't understand why a version like the BK2, with grind like the BK5, and with a 7 or 8 in blade wasn't made.

I never saw where to get all those different versions of the Beckers. I guess it's their past production(limited editions)? I've got a BK campanion and a BK7, both with the powder coat, and micarta scales. Regards.

hey, ya gotta collect SOMETHING, and i was into becker long before camillus got to them, but not in any serious way. then well... and i got into khukris, so of course, becker makes a fine one.

when i get better light, i'll make a "wheel" of all the different machaxen (6 orr 7). would've been 8, but due to a serious flaw in that one, and false advertising, i had to return it. i did consider keeping it, but one of my points with collecting beckers, is that except in 3-4 cases, they're all under $100. over that for a flawed specimen, regardless how pretty? er no.

now guyon could fix that for me :> he has one :)

mmm, lesee... i think i have 4. 2 plain edge (VERY cheap), 1 serrated (cheap!), one very old (not so cheap) :>

i think a lot of people snuck in too :) i mostly have at least 1 of everything at this point. still would like a new/user camillus brute, but otherwise i'm pretty content. i think :)

dated picture:

left to right:
reinhardt, patrol machete (missing dups), blackjack brute, machaxen: cin orig, cin blued, sterile powdercoat/epoxy, camillus, missing are a couple older cin variants, cammy campanion, missing is the old style/serrated/dups, cammy magnum camp, missing is the stainless model, bowie, combat, and necker. missing are crewmans and other dups.

i still don't own an extreme, and if the money thing is good, i might. probably won't own the desert tan models, or the HH bowie variant unless i trip over them cheap in the next few years are the hysteria has died down. it's been a 15 odd year journey already, so i'm holding the long view :>

plenty for all :)

I recently saw a heavily used desert version that has put me off those for good. Looked as though the scales were just coated/painted rather than molded out of tan plastic. These were mostly black with just some tan residue left.

Brutes were hard to find. You really had to look. BK-2's and BK-3's have been pretty plentiful, thought the 2's are drying up a bit. The BK-4's and BK-5's have been out of production a while, but I found one BK-4 at a gun shop and another one that came in under the $80 mark on eBay. As for the BK-5's, mine were mostly bought on the Exchange, with the exception of one I located at a North Carolina knife shop, thanks to a post here on the Camillus forum. BK-6's have dried up too. I got one on eBay and one of the last ones at New Graham. BK-7's haven't been hard to find; BK-9's have only been a little harder. 10's and 11's have also been pretty regular on eBay until just recently.

I know of one BK-8 proto, but I won't be getting that one anytime soon. :D

tan paint - bleck. skip that.

i mostly balked at paying around $90-100+ for a brute at the time, and i still do :> it's a pretty good knife, but nothing like my fav khuks, so i never got round-tuit :>

the bk2's yah, dead common. a local knife store went out of biz, and sold off their last stock at $35 each. had a friend with me, and he's not a knife guy *at all* but he bought one. can't beat that with a stick.

a lot of the others, new/used were on the exchanges, mostly fairly priced as used especially, $15/25 low end, nothing higher than $85 iirc - i posted about that weirdness elsewhere with actual numbers instead of memory :) the hard to find stuff, yes, i dropped the coin on those (as did you :>). glad i did, as some of those may not appear for years again. good to know they are in the hands of people who can appreciate (and sometimes use them).

even with some dups, i won't say no to a value priced becker. probably. i was goin to drop coin on some of the other models to have dups, and realized my folly. i'm not here for the high resale values, and of a lot of my 'crap', the beckers would be the very last to go, as they were my first big knives, and definitely my favorites. how i agonized over that first machax purchase back when money was very dear and weeks into my first "real" job.

OK after reading what everyone has, I had to check on mine, as I have just bought and stashed.
4 BK1
5 BK9
2 BK5
2 BK10
1 BK2 plain
1 BK2 serrated
1 BK7
1 BK11

I found an out of the way web site that I have never saw before, that I have sent an email to asking about instock knives. Maybe, just maybe.......

i contacted about 30 random sites looking for stuff. all out or no answers. yar. the market is shriveling like pouches in cold water :)

you have too many BK1s. i know where you can send one :)

see the exhange for a recent post by sd550? if you need certain other models. he happened to be out of BK1.

He has some pretty good stuff, and at todays prices, not to bad I guess.
All I was interested in, was the BK5, but I think I will pass as I am interested in finding a couple of BK6s.

For some reason I snagged two sets of the micarta scales when I could. One set went on my BK7 right away, but the other set was for "some day." I just realized that a few years ago, I gave a patrol machete to my dad. I don't think he ever used it, so if I can find it among the clutter in the house, I'll have a new home for those micarta grips.

They'll swap out just fine. The only ones that are problematic are the Brute and Machax. Thicker stock takes longer bolts. Good luck finding the BK6.

It's gotta be around here somewhere!

Re: the Brute . . . does that mean the bolts that come with it are too short for the replacement micarta scales? Are the standard grips thinner to accomodate the extra thickness?
