That one bad experience that totally ruined the brand for you.

I have one of those. The only difference on mine is the blade is more centered. Same scale gaps. Same overall fitment.

Mine needs the screw on the blade pivot thread locked. Because the blade wobble drives me nuts. It appears there was no thread locker used to begin with. But since Benchmade will flip out if I remove a screw. I gotta send it back.

What's the current turn around time on their warranty? How many weeks? Month?

This is one of their extra expensive knives too. So Yeah. WTF?
Ooof, that stinks man. Send in for a drop of thread lock? I agree, a black series shouldn't have so many QC issues, well none should, but especially not the self protection line.

I felt your pain, literally in the thumb and agree the thumb studs are a poor design but I will say that once they break in they become a real pleasure to use and are worth the effort. Also the thumb studs become less of an issues once broken in, even if it is because of a callous, lol. Id recommend trying an inkosi, they’re much smoother brand new with an adjustable pivot, more ergonomic handle and are all around great knives.
The thumbstuds suck on them for sure. I got 2 inkosi and a sebbie, not sure what they were thinking lol i swapped the thumbstuds and never looked back. Love the knives.

Well the question I keep asking myself is WHY?
Why don't they offer some knives with a different kind of thumbstud if so many people dislike them?

besides the flat out liars and scammers like survive, hoback, strider etc....and I wouldn't buy from them anyways.....

I'm okay with most brands. I haven't always gotten perfect knives or the best service and warranty..... but I realize mistakes happen and employees dont always care. most issues ive had were cosmetic more than functional. I'm not that picky if it works. i might whine a bit, but i get over it and just put it to use. some I've gotten function issues and had to send them in. I've had good and bad service from the same brands.

overall I've gotten far more good than bad from most of them.......

Yea, don’t really get the thumb studs but do love the knives as well. Definitely prefer the inkosi over the sebbie though. Really like that jimping on the blade as well.

Lol, that’s comes outta no where. Please expand on why you dislike the greatest, most underrated maker in the universe…

I’ll gladly take any you may have! 😉
I don’t have any lol. I loved my Magnate. I think Les George makes the best looking folders. I actually like Les George a lot.

Or just find yourself a pre-broken in 21 if able, even smoother :)

Spyderco has been a disappointment for me on several occasions. Two locks that I could close like a slip joint, one knife that opened in my pocket on more than one occasion, and the last straw was the scissors on a Clipitool that wouldn't cut anything. Spyderco makes a good product, except when they don't, and they won't honor their warranty. They don't care, they have plenty of other customers. I don't care, I have too many knives, already.

We've all done it. Tried something other than the usual for whatever reason. Looks, price, reading about the knife, recommendation you name it. And then when you got it, wow, what a disappointment. I've got one that stands out in the memory banks but won't discuss until we see how this goes. Hint: initials are CS.

Only case I can think of is Giant Mouse. I ordered a GM Sonoma and Tribeca at the same time. The Sonoma felt great in-hand, had great action, but had horrible cutting performance. The Tribeca was the one that turned me off from them - the design is large enough that you would expect a 4-finger grip on the handle, but you have to grip the lower blade choil to get one, and it is the only knife I've ever bought so far where there was enough play between the liner lock and blade that I could shake it and feel / hear them clacking together. I have no idea how that (not cheap) knife could pass QA being that bad.

The only brand that comes to mind is Böker Germany. I had a ridiculously bad experience with them:
Ordered a knife for my wife that was marked as 2-3 days delivery and paid it by credit card. Didn't think much of it but got refunded after 2 weeks or so due to Böker not picking up the payment. Annoying but whatever...
6 whole months(!) later I randomly find said knife in my mailbox, two days after that they charge my credit card.
Another 2 months later I get a rather angry Mail from Böker customer service threatening to hand my case over to a collections agency since I didn't pay according to them.
A lot of back and forth including sending a ridiculous amount of screenshots, proof of payment etc. to Böker they still insist on getting lawyers involved (over a <100€ bill none the less) fine by me at this point since I'm thoroughly annoyed since I did nothing wrong.
My wife, who is blessed with far more patience, gave them a call and escalated the case up the ladder until some kind of manager admitted that Böker has had an issue with their payment processor for quite a while and its easier to have customers pay again when in doubt and refund them eventually if they happen to find the initial payment. No excuse from them, not verbally nor on writing.
So no more Böker for me...

Benchmade and axis locks.

Got the minigrip with G10 and 20cv. The stop pin was to long so the action was impossible to dial in. Had to take it apart and grind down the pin. Not an easy task beeing that its the shoulders of the pin that needs to be taken down, but I got there in the end.

Oh and after 2-3 months one omega spring snapped.

I fixed the knife up, sold it and have been allergic to axis locks ever since.

I had recently lost my Grohmann Canadian belt knife and wanted a replacement. Was in a knife shop in Branson and lo and behold, there was a CS Canadian right there in the display so I had to have it. Turned out to be a totally worthless knife that would not take or hold an edge. I wound up strapping it to the front of the trout boat in case I had to cut the drag chain rope if it ever hung in fast water. I didn't even trust it for that so I actually trashed the knife. The one and only CS that will ever be at my place.

That sucks. It's a pretty low-end knife for them, but still surprised it was that bad. I'm not the biggest fan since the GSM buyout, but I would suggest trying something a bit higher on the food chain to get a better sense of their capabilities.
