When the factory moves will the village sarki guy be going along with everyone else? Or do you have to find a new leather guy?

I like the sheaths that have been made available as of late. :) I haven't even seen one of those smelly leather ones in a long time either. :D

Actually, this move will facilitate the debut of the new Sarki, a fifth-generation master in the art of Kydex forming.

The timing of the move really is fortuitous, as it coincides nicely with the recent invention of kydex. This availability of material should serve as a definite boon to the art and validation of concept to all the nay-sayers that the previous four generations had to put up with...

Jungles, Diving equipment, and military is the only place that kydex should be required. It is the most impersonal junk that I have ever had the misfortune to have to use. No thanks!!! What has worked for at least four hundred years still works for me and there are ways to make the old standby pretty much waterproof.:) :)

If Kydex was a more giving substance I would like to have a frog made from it. In the summer down here in TX I sweat pretty good outside working. Some kind of durable and limber stuff would save me treating leather every other day or changing frogs so I can maintain them every evening.:)

I would like to see some kydex lined leather sheaths with a retaining strap of some sort.

Uh, guys...read carefully and you'll notice the post doesn't make any sense. I was kidding! I also thought about saying something like "and we're really excited about the new 420HC stainless steel that Lynn Thompson will be providing us with!"
:) :)
Simply a worst case scenario that was fun to consider--in the grand tradition of horror movies.:D

{Edited because my fingers are only at a fourth grade spelling level}

Doesn't matter. Threads tend to wander from the original topic around here. You just have to mention something that catches someone's attention for it to go somewhere else.

Point taken Bruise, sorry for confusing the issue.
:(

Fortunately, Uncle Bill seems to be here now, so someone who actually KNOWS something can answer you.
:D

All personnel will make the move, including the village sarki. No kydex in the foreseeable future. I'm with Pappy on that one.

Hey now, I have some great kydex sheaths, and they look just as new as the day I got them!! Of course, complete lack of use will have that effect... :D :D :D

My user sheaths are all leather...or, actually wax with a leather core. It'd be interesting to pull one out and strip it down and see how much skinnier it got. ;)

Mind you, I have to get to work on my HI sheaths when I get back. I think I'll stop when the wax gets even in height with the edge of the brass tip.

Seriously though, does anyone do any oiling of the wood inside the sheath? Does it need it?

I line mine with kydek. Don't need no oil. :D

I prefer some Tennessee Wild Boar Loin Oil, when ya can get it. Very dangerous to collect...;)

The Scandinavians lined their scabbards with sheeps wool. The lanolin and the wicking nature of the wool kept the blade from rusting or sticking (due to frost or water condensation) in the scabbard.
