I have voiced my disinterest in the custom shop before ," I'd never pay that much extra for some nicer scales when case offers multiple options at a standard price" 🙄
Well I just saw this '98 jigged bone 305 on Ebay for $99 and barely hesitate, and j plan to use it too.

Nice 305's often hover around $30-$50 on Ebay, so I just paid $50-$70 for some jigged bone sclaes

Suddenly the custom shop doesn't seem so unreasonable 😁

Buck, put the 305 in the custom shop when/ if it returns and I'll gladly pay $25 or so for some nice jigged bone scales.
If I really love a model ( 305 might be my favorite) having a few different flavors of it in the rotation can be nice.

I was a fool to scoff at the prices, I still have no desire for anything other than the good 'ol 420hc they do so well but sure I would pay more for different scales even though you're still getting the same amount of knife for the money.

Congrats, that sure is a handsome knife and the jigging is very nice, different, I like it.
A very nice clean jigging that should really show well on a knife this size , and I like the shield too.

Since it's a " limited edition " I think it's safe to assume that most people probably stashed them away, so I'm not going to concern myself with keeping it a safe queen.
These little buggers are such a joy to carry and use.

What is that a Stockman?
Not really up on the non locking pocket knives.
Bought a few off shore Buck pocket knives at Wallys years ago.

Small 2 blade pen pattern, too small for some I suppose but I love 'em.

The 305 lancer , 307 pony, and 305s clipper are the smallest models Buck made.
I bet you ment to say 705 and not 307 for the pony! Because the 307 is one large Stockman knife.

Yeah, not sure how I did that one.
The 705 is basically the 700 series version of 305, and easy to remember because of that.
At least they don't have any complicated pattern numbers and scale material numbers to decipher like case has.
Just a simple number and easy to remember name.

Does anyone know the story behind this series ?
I know they're " special edition " from '98 and have brown bone covers, but was there any particular reasoning behind them ?

I can't help thinking that they were either a Bass Pro or Cabela's exclusive. I can't find any information on them either so I'm most likely wrong.shrug.gif

My thoughts were something along those lines, but I found no Info either.
Usually buck has a reason for releasing a limited or special run of some kind, it's not like Case who seems to do it all the time just because.

Both are nice but I'm quite partial to the backside scale myself, what do you guys think ?

I don't see anything on the label that might point to a special order for say bass pro or something, but I don't really know what that would look like anyways.

like the badge side just a hair better. due to even coloring of the bone throughout and not missing on the edges. but.....

it's nice both sides no complaints from me on either side. great little knife and good example ya got there.

I sure hope the 305 returns.
If it does, I'd sure love one in sunset bone.

Go look at the 1998 Buck Catalog and you will see the whole set!

Oh, I'm not a member.
I love Buck, but just don't have the patience to collect anything.
It's easier to just haphazardly accumulate things intending to use them.
Sadly I tend get eyes for things that are worth more to true collectors than they are to me.

I'll own a Snapon KRA149 someday, but it's gonna take a while for the stars to line up for me.
