hi all,

curious?
what do you think?

no- nothing with voodoo
and no brandnew super-special-chicken-killer!

I named this knife ´bloody chicken´ due to the name of the wood.
a very small and not marked piece came as an addition with a delivery of asian woods to a german wood-supplier, an experienced carver identified it as ´chickenblood-wood´....... probably.
my customer- a wood-supplier for knifes- got two pieces for handles, the carver used the remainder.
it´s an extremly rare wood of a sort of wine and comes from china/vietnam:

the knife is designed very plain- the wood had to be in the focus.
I was a bit nervous during the work with such a rare piece (one of only two handles in germany)...but everything turned out quite well.

some specs:
W1 forged
chickenblood-wood, stabilized
length 31cm
sharp 15cm
thickness 4,5-1,5mm
sheath with frog...ähh: flower

thanks for reading and looking!

gerhard

That is a fantastic piece of wood, beautifully matched with the elegance of your metal work.

Wonderful!

I agree, an amazingly beautiful wood teamed up with an amazing knife and sheath.
The wood grain pattern looks like foliage. I've always liked how you place your mark on the butt cap.

Beautiful flowing design! Terrific integral bolster design and yes...the wood....

That is a stunning knife. Special wood there, and the sheath with the flower stud is a great match.

thank you all for posting!

I´d like to use this wood more often,
but unfortunately there is no source-
the chinese use it in their traditional medicin,
you can buy it....ok, but only in homeopathic measures...to small for knifemaking, even for miniatures.

may be I should plant some chicken and hope for a harvest,
when it´s good, I`ll sell some handles!! :-)))
