The ´Bloody Chicken´

I initially shot past this thread earlier today based on the title. My curiosity had me open it just now and I'm glad I did.

The wood is extraordinary. After I absorbed the beauty and uniqueness of the handle material I turned eye to blade. The hamon is stunning and the blade shape, from all angles, is so appealing. Whoever owns this one is quite lucky!

Thanks my woodworking pursuits I've heard of chickenblood wood (tree vine) before, but never seen it on a piece until now. This is really excellent work. The groove on the spine and the way the blade flows into the bolster are impressive.
 
Just a coincidence...
On saturday morning I choose a wood block to make the handle of the knife I was heating to quench, and told to my friend that I don't like to use a material I don't know the name. And during tempering, I take a moment to see BF... and after reading the catching eye title, I found this beatiful knife... with (almost) the same wood .
I bougth it three years ago, and they told me it was from Misiones, a northern province in Argentina (were the Iguazu Falls are). There's a climate similar to the one discribed on the link.
I sent it to USA to stabilize it, and now I have some clues to find the proper name of this vine... thanks Gerhard!
