The 113 is a Beauty

If you're interested in the stag handled Boone and Crockett model, I can send you a link to where I bought mine. It's an online dealer and their price is $114. That's $13 less than the least expensive Buy it Now offering on the auction site.

I like the stag versions too. What are your thoughts on the medallion Dave ?
I know things always look different in person, than in pictures.

Does the stag version come with the same sheath as the standard 113 ?

I'll have to let you know when I actually have it in hand. It's on order right now. I do have the cased three knife 110 set and the medallions in them are nicely done.

If I were buying one to actually use in the field, I don't think I'd pay the extra for the stag and medallion. The B&C model doesn't have a premium steel blade, so for field use why not go with the 2011 wood handled model or the build out with charcoal dymondwood handles.

Thanks Dave. Thats what I was thinking. Now if it had s30v or similar

Is that the Boone and Crockett model?

I dont think so, but I'm not up on the B&C editions. They had a 113, a Gen 5, and one other that I cant remember but I dont recall them having the medalions. The Gen 5 was $159.95, dont know why it was $40 more.

The Gen5 has a few different versions. There is the standard with Charcoal Scales in 420HC, I've seen these run around $50. There is a few versions with 154CM, one with Rosewood handles for around $90, one with Elk Stag for about $215, one with Snakewood for about $215 and the Guitar series handle for about $235. Then there is the Bel Air which has Stag and Turquoise made with 420HC for about $150. I have the Bel Air, she's a beauty and feels nice in the hand. Just order the 154CM with rosewood as well, figured they're going to be a bit hard to find in a few months for a decent price.

I think you'll find that the rosewood Gen5, #005RWS, is CPM154 - like the special Bass Pro Shops 110. Mine sits in a case most of the time - that linear checkering ruins the grip for me - I haven't gotten brave enough to sand it and refinish it - yet. The pretty leather sheath is okay, but the pedestrian 005GYS's nylon sheath permits horizontal belt carry - a nice feature - it makes a great woods walking knife. I wonder if the 113 will fit that sheath? The 005GYS reminded me how good 420HC can be - it's a great blade steel - and easily resharpened. Still - for $120, one would think an upgrade 113 might have S30V or something.

A comparative picture of the 005 and 113 together would be nice.

Stainz, the Snakewood Gen 5 from 2007, the Rosewood and Guitar series model from 2008 were all made with 154CM .

The blade steel wasn't changed to CPM154 until 2009.

I'll do a picture comparison of the Gen 5 , the 113 and the Buck Redhead skinner when I get the 113 that's on order.
