The 12 Days of Medford

Stabman:

I just scored a killer deal on a Medford 187 user!

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1473658-9-For-Sale

Would it be possible, for you to change your thread title to: "The 13 days of Medford (an extra day for me)? :D

12 is such a nice round number though. ;)

Great post, like the Watchmen lighter. The lock up on that knife is absurdly shallow, doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Thoughts?

The bar right now sits with 0.050" on the lock ramp.
That is the same as a liner lock that is 0.050" thick sitting fully onto the blade.

Now sure, it'll be even better when, say, 0.080" or so is engaging, but it is quite solid at this point.
I wouldn't want less engagement though.

I love threads like this, thank you for putting this together. It gets back to the heart of why we love knives, and is a great reminder that they are tools meant to be used.

^ I agree with sticking to the 12 days of Medford, and also your lockbar assessment. Besides, I'd hate to hear about you having a melt down in your own, "who's having a melt down" thread. ;)

I can see Philllll's posts periodically on my wall....

"He mad!" "He really mad!" :D

I love BF's! We're like one big happy dysfunctional family. :D

Trolling for attention. Sad.

Great review! I've been holding myself back from making a purchase; just weighing in the pros and cons of carrying the knife. I wish the Dress Marauder was a little bit cheaper instead of being around the same price as the Midi Marauders.

Medford pricing is weird at times.
Like how the Micro Praetorian costs as much as the medium or full sized one.

I guess that means people will just buy the size they like the most, but it still seems weird.

That's why I hesitate on buying one. Not to mention, the added cost of s35vn that they put on is ridiculous. I kind of wish Greg would team up with ZT or maybe even Spyderco to design a knife. Anyways, sorry for stealing your thread. Great review and love to see more updates on how it performs.

No worries; jump in the thread anytime you'd like to. :)

The knife is still working well.

It would be cool to see a ZT/Medford team-up, but so far it seems like Medford likes the way things are going. They keep expanding their facilitiies, though, with more models in the works. Perhaps eventually they will want more of their designs in the most possible hands, so who know what the future will bring.

Im late, but one of the best threads I've read in awhile, thoroughly enjoyed it! Just made me want one of those if I were to buy a Medford one day in the future.

Since you have it now, post the pics!
Also wondering how well it works for utility tasks with that short, stubby blade.

I'll put this here:

The Medford got used to cut open a bun...that was about it for that day. :D
Of course, I had something else for bigger cutting...

And the day was a shorter excursion than usual, so there was less woodworking type tasks to use the Medford for.

Enjoyable thread. I dig the Watchmen zippo. I got a chance to teach that graphic novel this year, and my students loved it!

Excellent!
You can branch off into many historical, political, and philosophical discussions from that one book. :)

Pix are coming, stabman. :D
The Panzer has not seen battle, yet. I have the clipless model and it rides in my pocket and seems to be working although I'd like to try a Panzer with a pocket clip.
I like your Medford. Very cool.

Great thread Stabman, a very entertaining and well written review.
I've been looking at these for a while and your write up is making it easier to justify the expenditure. I really like tanto style blades and this one has been calling to me ever since I got my Arktika.
Thank you for taking the time to show us your experiences with this knife.

Now I want a medford....great review

Another Bladeforums review inspired desire to purchase. :D

It'll be interesting to see pics. :)
Make sure to get some other knives in some of the shots for comparison purposes...I have been having a difficult time picturing what the Panzer compares to.

If you like the tanto version of the Deployment 187, make sure to jump on the purchase in the relatively near future. The regular drop point one is still being produced, but the tanto one is discontinued.
Looks like they are still available at this point, but that can change quickly (as I found out in the past with other knives I missed out on).
