The 12 is now 11

Oof. Falcons sitting on 40M in dead money by trading Matt Ryan.

I heard some talk on sports radio that they might tell Baker to stay at home during the start of practice and some preseason games so not to be a distraction. Then, if a team loses a QB to injury during practice or preseason, they might try to unload Baker then.

I'd take 18M to sit at home.

This is definitely going to be one of the most interesting NFL seasons ever, with all the virtually unprecedented QB moves and other free agent moves taking place this off-season.

Who could have believed that both Tyreek Hill and Davonte Adams would be traded? Not to mention so many quarterbacks traded / changing teams!

I'm not surprised that it seems like no one really wants Maker Bayfield... He's nowhere near talented enough to be a starting quarterback "with character issues"... He's no Johnny Manziel in the character issue category, but he's never been a class act, a team player or a real leader, either. He seems to have more talent for TV commercials than a starting NFL quarterback, and that's not saying much. He might be a decent backup quarterback if he knows his place and doesn't become a distraction or a locker room loose cannon.

Now I bet the Hawks will trade Metcalf for Mayfield……

Teams are lining up with interest in Mayfield! The Dallas Renegades are reportedly interested (XFL) as are the LA Express of the USFL...

NFL teams.... not so much. :D

I hear there's some interest in having him do some local and regional TV commercials, and Maytag even wants him for a national ad spot. You know, "...the Maytag repairman and Baker Mayfield... the loneliest guys in town."

Lotsa Baker Mayfield hate . . . from where, I dunno. We have women beaters and criminals of all kinds in the NFL that don't get that kind of hate.

He stunk last year, but he was injured and probably shouldn't have played. Go back a year to 2020 and his stats were essentially the same as . . . Matthew Stafford. Better than Kyler Murray, Rapelisberger, Matt Ryan, Jimmy G, Joe Burrow, Jared Goff . . . and a bunch of others.

No NFL team is pursuing him now because they all know that the Browns will eventually have to release him and then he can be picked up for free. So why would anyone agree to give up any assets for him, or even pick up guaranteed salary, when it's only a matter of time until he costs nothing? I will bet ANYONE here that there is interest by more than one NFL team as soon as that happens.

I could give two craps about him personally. And not a Browns fan, either. But the cheap piling on is . . . cheap.

I am not a Mayfield hater! I could care less. Did you see the :D ? That means "I'm joking."

That said, I think Mayfield has made his own bed. That's why I am okay with kidding around about him, and don't feel badly for him. I've never seen anything to make me think he is a 'team player'. He runs his mouth and does antics that give his opponents extra incentive - potentially hurting his team's chances of success.

I'm sorry that you think my joking around about Mayfield is cheap, I disagree.

To me "cheap" is unsportsmanlike antics like:

1. burying the Oklahoma "battle spear", and in other instances, Oklahoma flag - in the opponents logo at the 50-year-line...
2. taunting his opponents with profanity and his trademark "crotch grab"
3. March 2017 - he gets drunk and ends up getting taken to the ground by a cop
4. 2014 - gets rowdy and maniacal, ends up being kicked out of a Lubbock, TX restaurant
5. He keeps a list of "media members who have doubted him", people who have disrespected him, and other 'enemies'. After hearing threats against their players, one team paid a private investigator to keep tabs on him to make sure he wasn't going to actually attack any of them.

People have not infrequently drawn comparisons between Mayfield, Ryan Leaf and Johnny Manziel.

In 2020, the year you cited, he was 15th in passing TDs, 18th in yards passing and 31st in completion percentage. Not too bad, if it weren't for the character issues.

the Browns will have to cut him or take the cap hit. Teams are probably waiting to see what happens next

Sure would be messed up if the 49ers end up keeping Jimmy and losing Debo in the upcoming season. :(

The NFL Draft starts in a few mins on ESPN.

---------------------------------

The 49ers don't have a pick in the 1st round. Unless they trade up somehow, their 1st pick this year is #61 in the 2nd round tomorrow night.

So, guess I'll just watch the top 10 picks 2nite just to see what's up.

---------------------------------

Interesting - Top 10 Picks for 2022

7 OL/DL players. 3 - over 300# OTs!
1 CB &
2 WRs

Also announced during the Draft: AMZN Prime will have "exclusive" rights to broadcast the NFL Thurs Nite Games, which may be a stepping stone to broadcasting other games in "prime time" in the future.

I am happy with the Hawks draft. I expect Baker will be the next pick up.

Current news is that the 49ers actually did not "have" to trade Debo and didn't trade him during the draft because they didn't get a sufficient offer for him. So, Debo stays w/the 49ers whether he likes it or not until his current contract runs out (or until he becomes a FA).

The results of the 49er draft made sense overall and they might make Debo happy as well.

It's not entirely clear (apart from the $), what Debo is/was pissed about but at least one of the issues is his feeling that he was being "overused" especially at RB. Really can't disagree w/that. They used him a lot because he was very good at it but I'm sure Debo suffered a lot of unnecessary physical wear/tear being forced (asked?) to run "so much."

Two of the 49er's offensive picks - 1 WR and 1 RB --"may" help reduce the team's need on Debo "so much" in this regard. They also drafted 2 OL players who may help in pass/run protection what would also serve the team and Debo well.

On the other side of the line they drafted an "Edge" rusher, 2 CBs and 1 DT.

The only "curious" pick (to me) was the choice of a 3rd or 4th string QB with their (and the Draft's) very LAST pick for a QB. I'm sure it made the "pickee" very happy to at be "drafted" but did the 49ers really need to "waste" their last (so called "Mr. Irrelevant") pick on a QB (given that they have a lot of those already, including one really highly paid one that they are not expected to use much (unless they still can't trade him) this coming year)?

Who knows? Of course, just because they were all drafted doesn't mean that any or all of them will make the team or, if they do, remain on the team for more than a year or 2, if that. So, as with the picks for all teams, we'll just have to wait to see how it works out.

Sorry to resurrect this months-old thread, but:

New Rams QB Baker Mayfield is scheduled to fly to Los Angeles this afternoon. Obviously, he won't be ready to play Thursday night against the #Raiders, but his work with Sean McVay starts immediately.
4:07pm - Dec. 6, 2022

The Mayfield saga continues. "The Carolina Panthers waived Mayfield on Monday, something interim coach Steve Wilks said was a mutual agreement between the two sides. Wilks said Mayfield asked to be released after finding out he wouldn't be the starting quarterback or backup in Carolina going forward."

Wonder if Sean McVay can get him turned around?
