since the search is down, how do you guys feel about the Dui-chirra?

I've got one comin my way, and wanted some opinions on it.
Did they come in different sizes? (the one im getting is iether 30" or 26"... im pretty darn sure its 26")
How are they for choppin?
What are common weights for Dui-chirra's?

Thanks in advance :D

SethMurdoc,

Is your a 19th century knife? 26 inch 19th century khukuries are unusual, especially with dui-chirra blades.

The Berk special is one of my favorite HI knives. Berkley made the original model cast off an original in his collection and HI started by producing two prototypes. Since then we have made a few more, but it is not a standard catalog item.

This? Gotta have the Caddi of the H.I line

You will love your dui chirra, it is a fantastic knife and is the centerpiece of any knife collection.

hmmmm..... i take it that the berk special is not a common user model...

well then, i better jump on this offer and make sure that i get it :)

i know it wont come close to comparing to a 25" ang khola for chopping, but how would it compare to a 20" ang (7/16" thick, 38 oz)?

"Jump on this offer"

What offer? Did I miss something somewhere? I haven't seen any offer?

it was a reply to my thread over in the wanted section. i want a super heavy chopper, and i figure, at 26" and as wide as it is, its bound to be heavier then what i have. and the style is definitely growing on me :)

Seth,
LOA is 21", weight is about twice that of the original because the blade is twice as thick - the cast didn't show thickness, assuming the kamis would have followed the original in that regard any more than the cho creep dimension, which they did have and disregarded. It is a partial tang - don't use it for heavy wood chopping as an axe substitute, or you'll break the handle. It's a 20th century replica of a 19th century weapon, done very well considering the convoluted way it was created. If you need a tool for very heavy work, HI has better and cheaper alternatives, and there are probably collectors out there who will cheerfully trade with you.

In light of what Berk said a Foxy Folly would be an excellent substitute.:D

Actually, my fave multi-chirra chopper (with useful as opposed to merely attractive tools) is a YCS....

For chopping I would prefer to use an Ang khola khukuri.

This 18 inch model is a good choice.

thanks for the note about the partial tang...

i now wonder what exactly i was offered... the description was basically "dui-chirra, tripple fullered, very thick, 26""....

if the berk specials were 21 inches, this leads me to beleive its something else?

what other moddles were triple fullered?

i have an 18" and 20" ang khola, and have a 12" coming. I'd be absolutely ecstatic to find someone willing to sell me a 25" or 30" ang khola, but they are rare and it seems that people are pretty hesistent to give them up (understandably).

god id love to have a 25" ang khola....
