The 19th-century Dui-Chirra thoughts?

As Yvsa pointed out, the Foxy's Folly would be a great LARGE chopper, if you can get one.
Mine is a little over 22 1/2" and weighs in at 52oz. It makes my 20" AK seem frail looking next to it. My Berk special, while around the same length as the FF is only 34oz. Definately more weapon oreinted I think.
Both are beautifully fullered blades, that is for sure.

 Dayum, but that's a heavy khuk AA!!!! Is that the whole rig or just the bare bones khuk?!?!?!?

My Foxy Folly rig, the whole deal, weighs in at 1 ounce over 4 1/4 pounds or 69 ounces. But that's with the two new kardas I made for it and the newly reworked and recovered scabbard by Terry Sisco.:D
My FF Khukuri alone weighs in at 1 ounce over 2 3/4 pounds or 45 ounces and is 20 1/2" oal. The whole rig is only 1/4" longer oal than the FF by itself or 20 3/4" oal.
Going to check the FF's weight and over all length to the Friendship GRS I have made by Bura.:D ----

Hmmm, interestingly, to me anyway, the bare bones Friendship GRS weighs only 1 ounce more than the bare bones Foxy Folly, or 2 ounces over 2 3/4 pounds or 46 ounces and is 21" oal.

AA's FF comes in at 2.31111-- ounces per inch. My FF comes in at 2.19512 ounces per inch, and my FGRS comes in at 2.19047ounces per inch.
My FF and FGRS are much closer than what I would've thought were I just guessing!!!! I would've guessed that the FF was a bit heavier doing it be feel.
This goes to show just how much a difference in weight the fullers make!!!!:D
I suspect the FF would also make an excellent felling khuk and perhaps a spliting khuk as well.
I haven't tried either with my FF as of yet, but its day -is- coming!!!!;) :D

I just rechecked my sizes and weights on the FF.
It is 3lb. 4oz.!
I remembered the length wrong though. It is only, a hair under 21".
I do not know how I remembered that one so wrong? :o
It is a monster to use for very long. I am not in the shape I should be, with my back issues and all. I took it out on its initial break-in run for about a half hour or 45 min. My arm was tired when I was done!
I like the fact that the fullers make the edge area a little thinner than a non-fullered model of this size. It tends to move wood and not get stuck when chopping. This is a khuk that I find best to just guide in its travel. Trying to muscle it is not worth the extra effort. Its weight does the work.

was there anything that was made with a standard 26" length with dui-chirra's ?

everything thats been said so far has been in the 20-22" range...

if it does turn out to be a 26" berk secial, wich do you think would be a better way of getting a 25" ak,

buying the berk special and putting it up for trade,
or keeping my wanted post going for straight cash (without purchasing the berk special) ?

man... a 26" foxy's folly would rock !  :D
Yea, if yer first name is Ahnold.

But not for the average guy, some of the bigger guys in here maybe 6 foot and over and around 200 pounds could handle one for a while, but probably wouldn't want to do it all day. The FF and GRS are as heavy as I would want to go for a heavy khuk. I still believe a 17"-18" Foxy Folly with a convex edge and no so-called habaki bolster would be an ideal khuk,:D but it ain't gonna happen.:( :( :( :(

why lift weights when you can chop things?

one the major excerize routines in my fast chinese wrestlings books involves using a bench press bar with weights at one end, and going through motions that will help build muscles involved in holds, hits and throws.

i figure thats as good a way to reason out buying a 26" khuk as any :D

26" FF...

Yes, a 17.5" convex FF would be great, eh?

i reread the email several times over (ive had 2 days off, and two days at work where i had nothing to do when i wasnt there),

and it states that it has a triple fullered 26" blade.... sooooo, unless he meant the entire thing (wich it doesnt sound like), im pretty sure its a 30 inch model.

but the only models that are fullered i know of are
the gelbu special
Yvsa Cherokee Special
the hanuman
fox's folly
*maybe* a berk special

now, ive seen a 30 gelbu special, but the rest of them.... that would be interesting to see any one of those in a 30" model.

since im looking for khukuries who's sole purpose in life is basically to split logs, the gelbu and berk are out, and the ycs and hanuman... i reeeeally dont think i'll ever see a 30" example of them... so, one can hope :D

so... its likely iether a gelbu, fox's folly, or berk special.... even if i dont purchase it, im now really interested in knowing what it is exactly :D

I don't recall that HI ever made a tin chiarra or triple fullered khuk so I'm beginning to wonder if it's even a HI khuk.
Unless he's talking about an AK.
Another thing, a HI khuk with a 26" blade would have a much longer handle than 4 inches, it would at least be 5 inches and probably more and probably be a pretty fat handle on a khuk that size as well.

Then again he may not know how to measure a khuk or know what he's talking about.
I would damn sure be asking a whole lot more questions if it were me.

How about posting the part of the email with the details of the khuk?
Maybe we can read something into it you may be missing.:)

"I do not have a 25" AK but I do have a Dai Churra which has a 26" blade -
very thick and has a triple fuller and is in perfect condition. "

that was it for description....

im hopeing that a picture will be available, cause that would solve every question ive had so far... (including wether its HI or not :) )

i do hope that posting this thread hasnt hampered the offer though...

Seth a Dui Chiarra has two fullers, can't have three because then it would be a Tin Chiarra.
Just want to clarify and keep things in order and correct terminology.;)
I'd be real interested in seeing a pic as well. You're right, that would clear the matter up.:)

i havent heard from him in a while now...

but, while i may never get to know what blade he was talking about,
i am going to be getting a 30" Ang Khola    (well... in about a month or 2, but the order is in :D )

wich is gonna rock!
