The 21 On Naked and Afraid

He needs to shallow it out on the back side of the spine and under cut the hook to make it more functional. Great pick up Xr6x Xr6x

Probably a dumb question, but, so what do you do with the hook? I can see it being useful for moving foliage you may not want to cut. Am I missing more obvious uses?

Not a dumb question at all. My answer is a story lol. I was born and raised in the swamps of Florida. Growing up in the swamps a machete was a must and a hook made life that much safer and easier. As a kid i would collect Spanish Moss, Palmetto Seeds, trim palm frons anything for money. Plus I always had atleast a dozen trot lines out. Everything I just mentioned involved some form of snake. Moccasins, Eastern Diamonds, Coral. With the hook i could lift branches, pull down moss, retrieve my lines from under trees that held Sun bathing snakes. And pick up said snake after I lopped off its head lol. A Jamacian guy I cut sugar cane with held a thin board with a notch in it in his left hand and would pull the cane to show the base and use his machete in his right to cut the cane. I just adopted that to my needs. When I'm blazing i use the hook to pull a branch down grab it with my left hand and lop it with my right And throw the branch to the side with my left. Nice fluid motion and steady progress forward. Hope that helped a bit.

Oh Yeah bowing a branch puts stress on it and makes it a zillion times easier to cut and keeps it from moving away and bouncing off of your swing.

That was an awesome explanation. It makes sense why someone on Naked and Afraid would have a hook on his 21. Thank you!

Looks Familiar

This....this is awesome. Makes a lot more sense (to me) on the 4 or 21...or possibly the 20 - maybe - than on anything smaller like, well...anything not as big as at least the 4. I know, I know - pot lifter!, you say. I say, that's what long sticks are for. I now have one more project to add to the very long list of $#!+ I Want To Do. Which is buried somewhere under the equally long list of $#!+ That I Have To Do.

Did you re-coat it after you did the mod?

That is a picture of my first mod. I have improved on the angle based on field use. I will post up my latest touch ups to the ramp. The way the tip drops below the spine is not ideal. A tip curving above the spine is. So I have been slowly increasing the angle of attack. It works pretty damn good now. And I haven't recoated the blade. Gonna let i wear with love.

I could see a machete or two of mine getting that mod. But not one I baton!
Questions: What kind of snake was that? If that was filmed in the US, it didn't look like a venomous one. But then I guess he was planning to eat it?
