I would normally not get my hopes up for a week, but this is HI. The 30" raffle Kobra came and exceeded my expectations.

First of all, I am always amazed at the quality and finish of HI scabbards and accessory tools. The scabbard on this one is flawless, and the (karda) has about a 4" blade.

The Kobra is more robust than I expected. They look kinda wimpy on the website, but the spine is still 3/8-1/2". I wouldn't want it any heavier.

I haven't had a chance to whack on some blackberry bushes with it, but did wack a bunch of boxes. It was a joke, they sliced like butter while still in the air. I don't think I need that 25" Sirupati I've been wanting. Now I have to clean up all that cardboard from the garage.

Fit and finish are flawless. The wood looks really nice. I wish I had a digital camera.

The initials are S.B. and there is something that looks like half a sun, or a porcupines back. Is this Bura?

Thanks to everyone and good luck to the winner of the next raffle. If there is one.

I believe that mark is Sher.

I'm glad you're happy with your new khukuri. I have a 30" Kobra and like you, I think it is alot stronger than it looks. Once the swing is started the force is awesome. Just Remeber, watch your legs. Be sure your over swing is not going to "hit" you.;)

:D Theme music for practicing with that monster should be "The Anvil of Crom" by Basil Poledouris. Send that thing to Pappy and we'll ship him down to the Amazon to try it out on giant anacondas. ;)

I would have been worth every penny even if I paid full price. I do believe I will be careful with "overswinging." Once it's going full speed it's hard to stop.

And I will admit, I do like shiny Khukuris.....

Sylvrfalcn,

I don't think the Anacondas would have much of a sporting chance.

Take care of yourself over there. And watch out for those young ones that have no common sense. Remember, their job is to do whatever you say during duty hours, and get away with as much sh** as possible on their off time. Your job is to catch them when you can, and bust their butts when they do it.

A crusty E-7 told me that once.

Thanks Gerry. By the way, they call what you were talking about "mentoring" nowadays. But, I still call it "puttin' the boots to 'em". Old dogs have difficulty with new tricks, but best not to test 'em on the ones they know.:D

Most young guys entering the Army expect a little "abuse" I don't think anyone is doing them any favors by phasing out some of the old ways. Combat is still combat.

Sarge,

We had a different name for it in the Marines back when I was in, all the new guys went through it when they hit their first duty station.

GSHAMR: does than mean your next purchase will be a 30" AK?

It's Kumar's mark.

Rusty,

I don't think I'll get a 30" AK. I have an 18" one and just don't see a need for anything larger. I might get a Ganga Ram Special just to have something different but I mostly like "fighting" type khukuris.

32055,

I know I'm a real lucky dog. Don't think I'm not counting my blessings. I can't stop looking at this Kobra.
