watched it last night-WOW what a visual movie-

a must see for those who enjoy a little history with your flick-no its not a recreation, its a bit over the top at times but very very enjoyable-

Historically, very inaccurate. Entertainment? Yes, you will be entertained. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.

FWIW, the actors' muscles are real. How they look is the result of 8-12weeks of hard, functional (not bodybuilding) training by Mark Twight of GymJones, using methods Mark learned when he was a member of the community at www.CrossFit.com. Mark's since left CrossFit, taking an over-large ego with him. But he still trains that way, 'cause it works.

I thought the 8-12 weeks claim was garbage - but 4 weeks ago I committed to following the CrossFit Workout of the Day, as posted on their website. The changes in my performance in 4 weeks are striking - especially as I'm 45, not 25. And yeah, my body looks different too. Same weight, vastly differently distributed - as far as I can tell, it's magic. More to the point, I've never felt better. Wish I'd done this ages ago.

Another 4-8 weeks of such training, and really-and-truly, I can understand how someone could look and perform like that. Boggling.

I enjoyed it. Very interesting visuals, and and all the testosterone one could possibly hope for!

I've seen all but the last 20 minutes so far. I could recommend it to people who enjoy comic books, but maybe not so much for people who are heavily into film.

I wasn't quite as impressed with it as practically everyone who recommended it to me.

Me too, don't get me wrong it is a great movie but deffinetly over hyped. IMO of course :)

I TOLD you it was like a comic book;) It's very faithful to the source material as well:thumbup: It is not "great film". I am a fan of "great film", but this movie is 2 hours of 100% chest-beating man movie. You pop this in to be entertained and watch slow motion spear thrusts all the while hooting and hollering and and ripping off your shirt to jump from couch to love seat to coffee table screaming "THIS..IS...SPAR-TA!!". I swear, if eye-rolling qualified as an Olympic event, my wife would hold the gold medal:P

300 is an all around macho action movie. Not a great film, but a damn good time for its 116 minutes:thumbup:

300 is an awesome film. True "man" flick, indeed.

Now I can say to my wife..."Sure, I'll go to (insert chick flick name here) with you if you'll watch 300 with me"

:D :p

Just seen it- does live up to the rep.:thumbup::thumbup:

Really enjoyable and historical inaccuracies don't take away from a great flick.

um, what would be close to the sword- kopis? falcata? looked useful :p

I read the name of the sword somewhere. Maybe in Gates of Fire? I'm pretty sure there's a part in that book where a Spartan dignitary group trades friendly jabs with a Somalian captain of a Persian ship before the war where they examine each other's weapons etc, etc, etc. I'll see if I can look it up later.

Whatever it was, it was brutal:D

Was it me, or did that fop Xerxes look like Rue Paul with chains on his face?

Mike :p

I think the sword they used in Gates of Fire was called a xiphos.

Yeah, I think part of my problem is I've had people recommend movies to me so many times that turned out to be disappointing.

(backs away slowly...)

On a similar war-movie theme, anyone else see Bang Rajan? Like 300, it had its cheesy touches, but it covers a historical battle in 18th century Siam that I was totally unaware of before. That and you get to see guys fighting with a dha in each hand... them's some cool blades!
