The 9 and Swabbie having a blast (and me too).

Yah I think that swabbie is would be absolutely killer with some mods... Take off the "talon" thingy on the butt of the handle, Grind the back guard down completely, and grind the bottom guard down a bit so its more comfortable to choke up on, then either stipple those scales, or give them a bit of some grip tape, and finally convex that edge out and it would probably make it 10X better! I think the swabbie is a very cool knife but it is hard for any blade to compete with the 9. It seems to chop better than all the other knives in its price range and probably beyond.

However, a really cool mod for that swabbie would be to make a D guard for it... How cool would that be?!
You'd have to find some landlubbers to attack if you put a D-guard on it. And start wearing a patch on one eye, too.

Any thoughts on modifying the Swabbie? It seems like it's missing something, but I don't know what…

Perhaps a new sheath or custom scales?

"AArrrr!" said the old pirate to the old woman, "ya remind me of me piratin' days!" "How's that, old man?" asked the woman.
"AAARRRR!" snarled the pirate."Because o' yer sunken chest!"

A D-guard, really? :D

Thoughts, there are. Balls and skills, there are none.

 What about "lack o' booty"?

Seriously think about it. How cool would that be?! I'd still do all the aforementioned mods, but then make a detachable D-guard for it! You know so you can punch those other scurvey buccaneers in their rotted gold teeth, or brain some zombies... whatever you are into... Its already basically a pirate/zombie short sword, All I am saying is lets fully commit! LOL

Fully committed would include some knuckle spikes on the D-guard. :pirate: And a brainer spike on the hilt! :emot-yarr:

I tried to soften up the feel of the handle on the chop stick with bamboo floor samples. Its way more hand friendly now. Ist still no 9, but really, what can compare?

^I like what you did to those handles. They look comfy and hand filling. The 9 remains the beast of beasts though.

That's why today I felt fit enough after being a bit sick to go ahead and finish the job on that Hazel.

One down, two to go.

The 9 did well. Of course it takes a bit longer than a chainsaw, but it works. That Hazel is some hard wood, damn. I would have liked it more if it would have been Pine or Spruce, in the end my hand did get a bit sore.

Cleaned up the usable sticks for firewood, knocked off the little branches and whatnot. The 9 excels at that. I rarely had to chop twice to get a branch off. Great stuff.
The aftermath:

Dayum! You must be all pumped up, Ahnold. Apparently, this is what happens to mere mortals when they take the 9 into their hand.
(I like the lanyard, too ;))

Put it to some great use there right off the bat. After I got my 9 I spent 2 hours batoning firewood ;)

Chopping down trees with the 9 is fun. I wacked down similar sized maple

It sure felt good, although it was tiresome too. The wood was haaaard, even when green. That lanyard is pretty sick too. Must be a pretty clever guy who though them through.

It should be used for sure. I read at some places that some WD40 or some oil now and then improves the chopping/cutting and I must say it really does. With WD40 applied, the 9 did bite deeper into the wood than without. It also covers up for sloppy technique when you're getting somewhat tired. It's a very forgiving blade, probably also due to the handle. Love it, love it, love it!

As for the new coating, it might be a bit sticky but it doesn't really bother me. I like that it's really tough and it allows me to keep using this tool for a long time with a minimum of maintenance. I'll let it wear down by itself, and maybe help it when it starts to be just ugly. Thanks for looking guys ;)
