The absolute smoothest pen for about $25?

I have not been excited about the Fisher or Lamy pens

Neither have I, overall; although Lamy does produce some interestingly designed stuff that does not break the bank.

I like Lamy especially fountains. Anyway for around 25 bucks a Cross ballpoint with a BROAD refill will probably be your smoothest writing option.

I've been working on a old Cross pen my dad gave me when I left home to join the army, telling me to write home every week. That was 40 years ago. I've tried all kinds of pens, but I keep comming back to that old Cross. It's dented, chrome worn off, but still writes so smooth, its a pleasure to write with.

Like one poster said, use the wide refill in it.

I recently got a Rotring 600 ballpoint with the lava finish. I love it. The ink writes smoothly, the finish is excellent, and it is the perfect size. Does anyone know of any refills other than the Rotring refills that will fit this pen? I'm not sure if they are the Parker sized refills or not.

I used to work for Mont Blanc, and in terms of Ballpoints and rollerballs. WAY OVERRATED. Tell you what, just buy one of the refills for 6 dollars and write with that. When purchasing a Mont Blanc, you are paying for the casing not the ink cartridge, which is 6 dollars.

Some of the Fountain pens are nice though, I write with a Signum "F" Fountain pen. Has a 18K nib. Fountain pens are worth the money because of the craftmanship that goes into it, nibs are handmade and out of gold so that it "flexes" with your writing style.

Dumas probably makes one of the best FPs on the market.

As mentioned near the beginning of the thread, nothing will write as smoothly as a good fountain pen.

With that said, though, Montblanc ballpoints - the refills - are probably the best. Thing is, they fit only in Montblanc pens.
And as to the original question, there are no Montblanc pens retailing for less than $25.00.

Ballpoints in general, though, are just not going to write as smoothly as rollerballs because ballpoints use paste ink while
rollerballs use liquid ink which "flows" onto the page.

I have not been excited about the Fisher or Lamy pens that I own-they do not write as smoothly or they have a tendancy to blotch their ink.
Lamy redesigned the M16 to be less blotchy. And the Broad is the smoothest of the available options. Not too thrilled with Lamy's designs myself, but I'm sold on the refill.

Only the Rotring refill perfectly fits that pen.

That's strange, after posting that, I looked on some websites and asked on another forum and the websites showed other refills, and the person I asked told me what kind of refill he used in his

How long ago did they redesign them? I still have a couple left that are about 2 years old. If it has been since then, I would like to try them again.

What I am saying is to simply use a refill as a pen. I bet one of you guys can design or modify a casing around a mont blanc refill.

A good compromise for a flow of a rollerball, but reliability and longevity of a ballpoint is to use a "broad" refill for a ball point. Its great because it feels alot less scratchy due to the larger surface area for the tip of the nib.

That's about the time. Look at your refill. It it has the silkscreened logo, it's old stock. New stock has the logo on a plastic film.

The Pilot G2 refills will also fit the Rotring 600.

Are you serious? That is awesome! I love the ink from those pens, but I always disliked their cheapness! Great news, thanks  :D

I have a Parker gel refill in my Rotring 600. Very nice. Rotring 600s will accept any Parker-type refill.

Sorry!! I misread the post on the Rotring 600 and thought we were referring to the 600 rollerball.

So yes, of course, the 600 ballpoint takes any Parker type refill, etc.

My mistake.

No problem

It's good to hear that all Parker refills fit it. Thanks guys.

The Pilot G2 is a very inexpensive pen that writes really damn smoothly.
=)

personally I write with a Rotring Newton, thats way out of your budget, but I also write with a Lamy Safari, which is good too (and in your budget). If you're willing to spend a little more, try the Waterman Phileas Fountain Pen (gold nib, beautiful beautiful).

Goodluck ^^

I am constantly buying new pens. I don't like the roller ball pens as they smear and the really fine or ultra fine points just don't flow nicely on paper. My favorites have been made by Parker. No gel pens as they go on wet. Go to office supply store and try one out. It is doesn't just glide over paper, you got a bad one. Try again. The most expensive pens are not necessarily the best pens.
