been collecting knives my whole life, but never got into the Black Friday-style knife blitz releases. But I really like the look and design of the ad 20.5, so decided to set an alarm and try to get one this morning. First time ever doing this lol

went on to the site at 12:01, but it was slow as all balls. Took atleast a minute for each page to load. Finally added the knife to my cart and checked out completely. Went to submit my finalized order and it rejected saying it sold out. Time was 12:09.

probably didn’t need to spend the money anyway, but damn that was a bummer lol. Anybody else get skunked?

Its how it is now, it's actually gotten slightly better now that the market is a little more saturated.

Try a GEC, or popular spyderco sprint. If you're at the 8m speed crowd, I think the only sure-fire drops you can snag is hinderer :P

It's also a little annoying because during checkout, the website might crash multiple times, leading towards the "did my order go through? Did I add it successfully?". It seems dealers themselves aren't even ready for the flock of flippers...

If you want to score a hot drop, you need to be on the listing page before the drop, reloading the page every few seconds so you catch it immediately. You should also be on a real computer with real ethernet and a high speed land line, and have your payment info saved with the vendor ahead of time. Debit usually processes faster than CC, although there's a higher fraud risk. Paypal and Apple Pay are often too slow.

BHQ's site often takes a crap on big drops. In situations like that, all you can do is keep reloading until their system catches up.

With something like the AD20.5 which is available from many dealers, your best bet is to find one from a small dealer. Everybody and their mother goes to BHQ.

Email nd text notification, from my experience:
BladeHQ: C- always comes late
DLT: B+ most of the times on time. Sometimes I get the email, go into website, already OOS.
KSF: A- probably the most on time, but there are still times.
REC: F-? I get notifications at my 8pm eastern...wth? Not dropped, check for the next 20m, not dropped. Check next morning, OOS, huh?
Collectorknives (via Telegram): A, almost always on time as long as you're quick.

My personal experience from mostly spydercos and GECs. I'm sure you have different, I mean could be email server delay, etc I guess.

there are some shark foot fully serrated ones available out there. seen in two places already.

😅 😅 😅 😅

That's just cruel. He's not ready for THAT level of skunked.

DLT had the day before at at least 10 mins before sold out, KC is better about “giving warning” they had some a few weeks ago available for pre order with “delivery within 1-2 months” before saying un-available about 5 minutes later. Smaller sites had some sporadically in the last few days. They are out there! But it’s quickly turning into that serrrated sheepsfoot being the only one available pretty quick 😆

Been there on both sides of the fence. Sometimes your the windshield and sometimes your the bug.
I was the windshield this time and scored one from DLT right at the drop and notification. Surprisingly they were Available for about 20 minutes. Chose the clip point over the sharks foot. For some reason the sharks foot looked out of portion with the handle looking very small. Normally I love Wharncliffes but the clip point looked much better to me on this pattern and handle to blade ratio.

I actually saw the AD 20.5s drop a few times, at least the websites stayed intact...

The worst was when the V2 Squid Krake Rakens (sp?) Dropped...that's the first time I saw knifecenter's website crash for like 15m. At least with GECs it's a "one moment here, next moment gone" thing, so you know if you were late. Websites crashing is a little, unforgivable methinks lol.

The trick is to have a semblance of patience and not ride the hype train, especially for knives you know will come back, such as the AD, Malibu, now Runt, etc. GECs are just...tough luck lol be prepared for severe disappointment.

Papalone13, I want to piggyback onto your thread if you don't mind. Does anybody know if there is a tracking number if you choose the BladeHQ's "Free Economy Shipping" option? I placed my order on last Tuesday and so far, zero shipment notification from them? Thank you!

You might get yelled at by a mod for hijacking :P

If you got a email order confirmation (the "Incoming!" email) then you're good to go. Their email shipment update is pretty late, if you have an account with them, you can login and click on your order to see status and tracking number. For me, the tracking number ALWAYS shows up here before he email comes out.

Good luck

Thank you! The submitted emails is the only one that I received. When I logged in to my account, the tracking wasn't there. Is that normal to take that long?

No, but it's happened, usually with hot items or really old items (speaking from personal experience). You can email them about it with the order number, they respond usually in a day.

I feel better now, thanks! I emailed them yesterday but still want to hear others opinions.

Website crashing when desirable knives drop is annoying, but I wouldn't expect it to change at all. The markup the dealer gets on an AD-20.5 or GEC is likely no different from what they get on a PM2 or Case, so you'd be asking them to spend significant money to improve their website for the sake of a 5 minute rush to sell maybe a hundred knives. Doesn't make any sense. Honestly, I'm guessing hot knife drops like that are more of a PITA for dealers than they are a big money maker. I would bet a major factor in them even participating is to draw attention from new customers who might continue to shop there more regularly rather than the profit from the sale of those, particular, hard to get knives.

In the mid 1980s Honda's and Toyota's were selling for$1000 to $2000 over MSRP. That didn't last. I doubt that this will.
