I came upon some antique micarta scales for the original FK a year or two year ago…and foolishly sold them. Live and learn, I guess....


*EDIT* Also, you guys have some great photos in this thread! I have appreciated seeing all the different shades of AECM.

Is that what these are? Slab cut AM?

They are darker than any other natural micarta I've gotten from CPK but not nearly as dark as the aecm I'm seeing.

Appears to be standard natural micarta. They take on a much deeper color with time and use.

These were fondled a lot by a fellow CPK lover and appear similar to what you have.

I think I'm really drawn to the reddish brown shades of ECAM. Probably because I have several traditional knives on the yellower end of the spectrum.

Buffed, was just super light with almost zero streaking. Two years later it's darkened a bit. I'm sure it'd be darker if it was my normal carry.

As a (retired) polymer chemist I can absolutely appreciate Old School/OG Westinghouse micarta for what it was/is. Polymer chemistry is barely a century old, and the Giants of the field, Bader, A., (Bakelite), Carothers, W., et al are still mentioned often. I never worked with composites much, but I get them. My personal preference now is no more Safe Queens and the CPK Terotuf appeals to my practical side. YMMV.
