Does anybody else find this show on Discovery channel to actually be humorous? It's amazing how little common sense or practical skills these city people have when it comes to surviving in the woods. I hardly consider myself an experienced outdoorsman and most of my experience is through scouting (i'm only 19) and yet I still laugh at how many mistakes they make.

i.e.
-trying to shoot a BUFFALO with a .22!!
-Trying to sight-in a rifle by having 3 different people shoot 2 shots each and
see how it needs to be corrected.
-Using the sharpside of a hatchet to simply dig through ice and snow (and then going into DIRT), rather than the hammer side

Anybody else see this show and have any thoughts?

I thought them thinking about shooting the buffalo with the .22 was the most hilarious thing yet! I laughed outloud. Luckily for them, I think it was too far away for them to shoot. At least thats how they made it seem.

Does anyone else think the 2 people in the tent seem to have been given a bigger disadvantage then the rest of them? Why were they trying to cut up wet driftwood with trees right behind them? I actually feel kind of bad for them...

The folks in the tent are worse off simply for being in a tent. They've had the most bear encounters, and they're the least prepared for it. I found the fact that the adventure racer and her husband didn't think to melt snow to drink instead of trekking through a foot of it for water was humorous. These people really are dumb, and I'm certain at least a coupe of them would have kicked the bucket in the first couple of days if not for the people behind the scenes.

The father and his two fat-ass daughters are the most disgusting to watch.........they have serious issues, not including their woeful family relationship.

The woman who was suggesting to fire 2 shots instead of one had more of a clue than the buttwipe that chastised her for suggesting it.

It's interesting to watch these people........but it makes me wonder what criteria the producers used to choose them, as it looks like they chose the least capable folks they could find !

.

It wouldn't be worth watching if everybody did almost everything right ;)

But, then again, it would be much more educational and easier for me to watch. I find myself wanting to smack the people on the show far too frequently.

I watched my first episode tonight. I was amazed that they let them out there with out more training. They have "off-camera" experts with them according to a disclaimer that ran after one of the commercial breaks, and, of course, there is a camera crew right there, so I do not believe that they are in any true danger. All the same, I actually feel sorry for some of them. I did get a chuckle out of the trio who used a .22 to shoot at a buffalo. I imagine they broke Alaska law on that one, but after watching their agony of trying to sight in the rifle, I do not think the buffalo was in any danger. I wish them all well.

I've watched exactly one episode and probably won't watch any more but it was kind of funny in a sad way. You really shouldn't be so hard on these people for a couple of reasons, 1: they are apparently completely out of their element, probably very intelligent and skilled at their respective jobs but not in survival skills. and 2 you can bet that some of this crap is scripted by the directors to garner viewers. Hey i'm white trash from arkansas watching the show with other white trash and the general consensus was that we'd have done much better than the people on the show. But you take my dumb country butt and throw me in New York city for a couple of days and film it and it would probably be pretty funny, in a sad way.
i gotta say the .22 and the buffalo was pretty funny.

Without the off camera folks I'm fairly sure they'd be dead shortly. Good Lord those people are simply without common sense. The three who hiked for the other cabin simply astounded me with their lack of thought, and the two daughters with dad need a smack upside the head.

Amusing to watch pathetic people in the Great White North. And watching otherwise vegetarians dig into fresh killed meat and scavenge carcasses is most satisfying.

I really liked the one girl saying she doesn't agree with guns because she's a pacifist(sp?) that got a chuckle out of me, another was them going through the moraine and talking about how they're out of water!!!! they're surrounded by snow!!! throw some in a zip lock and let it melt, or make a little fire and melt some, like others have said, just people waaaaaaaay out of thier element

Entertainment TV at its best,I like the show but without the crew behind the scenes, I am sure they'd all be dead...but the couple in the tent had the hardest struggle and why was the tent set up with all the water around them and in or near a water runoff path.

In the recent " Into The Wilds" movie, didn't that kid shoot at a moose with a .22? Something like 8 times? It's probably possible but not recommended.

Sounds like another of those fake survival shows I'm so glad to miss. It would be really great if at least one show was really teaching survival.

I think they should recruit people like us,off of this forum now that would make for a good show.hehehe

Somebody on another forum I go to suggested the idea of a show where they take internet survival gurus and put them in the wilderness and see how they do.

I would go get cable and a TV to watch that!

what is missing here is that these are REAL people making REAL mistakes...we find it easy to sit back a armchair QB...but we are the exception to the norm...here we are common place...but in the "real" world we are a dying breed....

I wonder what goes through the minds of the wilderness/survival experts that are there to assist in emergencies. To think we're finding this outrageous, they have to be going crazy about some of the things.

Gotta love it when a guy who admits to being "afraid of shooting guns" touches off a 338 magnum and takes a scope to the eyesocket..LOL.. I dig that show if only for its comedic value. Also its great to see people who normally would be hanging out with PETA types eating ANY DAMM meat they can find, catch, or kill..HA!!
