Here is a forged leuku style survival/camp style knife made by a fella in Conn. He runs a farm and makes an occasional knife. Looks a lot like a Leuku so I call it an American Leuku. Fully flat ground, left rough on the spine and high on the flats(brute de forge style), .25" at the spine and abruptly tapers to the point about .5" behind the point. A very heavy duty style of this knife. Blade is about 8.125" of 1080 steel. Total length of the knife is right about 13.125"
Handle consists of end grain oak segments spaced with thick leather washers, hand made brass guard silver soldered to the ricasso-which could have been done better-but it ain't gonna come loose any time soon! Brass butt is taper peened over on the end. The oak and leather are press formed on with epoxy too over the tang. Its a narrow tang and not a rat tail tang. Very top of the handle near the guard shows a grain crack that is about the width of a hair that I have rubbed thin epoxy in. Steel used is 1080 hard at the edge and a bit softer at the spine. Nice weight to the knife too. I have used this to hack a couple of thick sticks of hickory and it did very well at that. Blade bites nice and deep. Sheath is wet formed to the knife.
A nice heavy duty, deep woods capable bring you home Leuku style of knife.
I take pp or m.o.'s $160, would consider offers too, with $12.50 shipping. keepem sharp
PS always looking for a good bowie knife or chute style knife.
