It comes out like what you put in !!The process is the same whatever steel you use , stainless, rebar etc. It's a continuous process going through smaller and smaller dies or rollers .The old way used a series of rollers and the steel snaked back and forth .The new way is linear.

This is the old way where a line of rollers , O ,are used . A worker ,as the wire came through , would grab the end with tongs, turn 180* and insert the end into the next set of rollers. It get's exciting with the smaller and faster end !! There should also be safety posts as marked by the X so the hot wire doesn't grab the worker.

That drawing has been changed by posting !! But I hope you get the idea.

Right, so I was wondering what kind of scrap they melt down over there, how much of it is iron ore, the quality of their ore, and how much carbon those blooms might have in them...
For that matter, I wonder what kind of smelter they use? Open hearth, Bessemer? And then a reverberatory furnace?
That does sound exciting.

Can u forge a knife out of steel rod

Yea, you can forge a knife out of any shape steel as long as it's a forgable steel that will make a good knife, and from any size, as long as you have the means to forge it down (such as a press or power hammer for a large piece) if it's a big piece. For the mpost part, for anything anything 1" and above in diameter or square stock etc you'd want some mechaical power on your side ;)

BTW, make sure you check the date on the posts that you are replying to, this thread was from about 5 years ago, and the other one you posted on regarding forging W1 stel was from 12 years ago. The mods and other guys tend to look down on resurrecting very old threads for a simple question.

It is easier just to start you own and that you can ask all the questions you want :)
