Dr.David Darom has written 3 MAGNIFICENT books on knives:
Art and Design in Modern Custom Fixed-Blade Knives
Art & Design in Modern Custom Folding Knives
and the one you are interested in:
The Art of Modern Custom Knifemaking: 100 Custom Knife Related Projects in the Making
These all go off for around $60 a piece so they are not frivolous throw aways. The photography is SUPERB and I couldn't put them down when I received them. The photography is as good as it gets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a fourth one on the way now: The Collections (I can't wait for this myself)
The book you asked about has a TON of useful info. 100 knifemakers are visited and articles are written about knives they are making or steel they are forging or techniques they use. As I said above I couldn't put this book down myself. My only gripe with these books is that the type font of the picture captions is a tad smalll for my aging eyes (. a minor complaint in the scheme of things).
I consider the money solid investment in my hobby.
Gets 2 enthusiastic thumbs up from me too . Most excellent book. I am a type of guy that rarely misses a "How it's Made" episode . And if you have same type curiosity about knifes - this is the book.
It is also very nice to see just how willing to share their knowledge and techniques most of knifemakers are.
I believe that you can still purchase it, along with The Great Collections, directly from Saviolo Publishing. On top of everything else mentioned, the books have the highest quality printing I've ever seen in an actual book and not just a pamphlet or museum catalog.
