The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

If someone wanted to make field sharpening boards with sand paper to be used on CPK knives, what grit succession would you recommend to get a chipped blade back to not noticing the chip was there? And how do you feel about micro mesh for the same application?

Thank y’all for your time!
If you have the skill/ability to hand sharpen, my favorite sharpening tool is a DMT Diafold Duo Coarse/Fine. I've used the Coarse side to quickly reprofile VERY dull blades, and the Coarse would work well for reprofiling a chipped edge.

The Fine side will get the edge shaving sharp (and I like that it's a slightly/microscopically toothy edge. Works better for all-around use). Folds up small (~5"x1.2"x3/8") and light (~2oz).

Probably misheard, and they were talking about who should be fired out of a cannon... 😅
Max, now you've gone and done it.

Dang E, you startled me 😬

That’s the spitting image of a 6’-1”, 220lbs, Beet Red Face, along with an 18” head and hand wooden smacking dowel, Sophomore Year of High School, that’s Sister Geraldine, every Catholic schoolboys nightmare 😱
Oh, you didn't hear?

Now she's known as Jerry and runs Pickleball games on Thursday nights with her bar league.

I would use silicon carbide and start with 220, but if you've got a big chip to get out you'll probably want to go lower. If it needs a lot of work you can return it for the cost of return shipping and I'll fix it here.

Nathan, which one of the ongoing projects currently on CPK's whiteboard has the best chance of becoming a production pattern in 2024? I am excluding the current preorders, wondering about those in preproduction / R&D / experimentation phase. TIA.

We might need to do another small production run of competition choppers

That's great news for me because I foolishly slacked off on the original preorder, only if I can figure out a way to score one of those if lightning indeed strikes twice! I am not surprised that you are considering and accelerating ahead with this since you are winning so many titles and perhaps need to make some extra spare ones for the in-house CPK-Champs.

In the spirit of ANAQ thread, here is a Q: you got some more new good wood?!

I sent a crew to salvage some wood from an old shipwreck but I haven't heard anything back from them yet. I should probably look into that.
