The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

I have the material for it. I have a design for it. I have the tooling for it. But I need an opportunity where the machines in the shop are open and I can set up every operation of every component so that I can efficiently make exactly one to evaluate and make tweaks before making another and another etc. I don't have enough experience with folders to make one to our standards on the first try so I need the ability to make modifications to every component until I get it right and it's just a lot of capacity. Right now we are running pre-orders and I don't have that capacity.
A humble, genius perfectionist. I am sure the wait will be worth it.

Would something like this pre-tweak folder with all its misshapen parts end up in the creek?
Also, would it be ok for me to take up residence in your creek like some sort of hairy merman that protects the reject CPKs?
Hairyiel

Blues Blues , could you do the honors?
🤣🤣🤣

P.S.
How's your singing voice? 😜

In somebody else's creek.

You think about going down there,
But that's cuz you're just a freak..."

Nathan - One thing that will facilitate the production of a folder is focusing on the pivot area of the knife. I suggest removing the pivot all together and making it a neck knife. Much less tweaks. You could even make it a Bowie style blade with tapered tang if you so choose. I'm available for consulting on this project.

Just got a ratmandu in Busse sr3v. I’am curious to know your opinion on 3v at 62hrc? How does it affect its toughness? I kind a like chart and numbers but i’am not finding anything.

Here's one of Larrin's charts. Toughness is dropping with hardness, but the chart only reaches 60.5 for 3V. I've seen Nathan offer it at 61, but I can't recall seeing it higher. Most people target around 60.

IIRC, the FK2's harder / thinner variant ran ~ 1 point higher than the standard D3V FK2 which is stated at 61 HRC on the spec sheets. if standard FK2 is 60.5 - 61 then the HrTr version is 61.5 - 62 about where that Busse claims to be. Although Nathan had called it: #badidea, it was offered as a knucklehead's option.

I ordered some to try it. I thought this was going to be 62, but I may have misread it or perhaps that was a typo.
