The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Nathan, was wondering if you any plans in the future (2018 or beyond) to offer a BC pre-order? Looks like your schedule is pretty Hectic as is! ;) Thanks

Yes I do. It's a really cool knife, I need to work out the final details and manufacturing processes and I hope it can become a pattern. My BC is probably my favorite knife, I just need to do my homework first.

Justin, as you requested, top to bottom, then right to left - the BC, HC, RLC with Westinghouse, LC, Shiv in A2, Shiv in 3v, the "rainbow" and the UF:

Awesome photo, and CPK collection!

Any idea, offhand, of the weights of the LC, HC and BC?

I'd love to borrow yours some day... :)

I have a question for Nate! What are thoughts on cpm cruwear vs cpm4v. I’m thinking of making myself a nice all around outdoor blade, and I’m trying to decide between these two. I’m looking for the best combination of edge holding and toughness. The intention of the knife is an all around single blade to take on my 10 day wilderness elk hunts. Camp chores, skinning and quartering game, chopping and fire prep. Have you tested cruwear any?

^^^Not to presume to speak for Nathan, and I suspect he'll be along soon enough with an actual, thoughtful answer, but I bet his answer will go something like this:

"It's all about the heat treat. A low grade steel with the correct heat treat for the intended performance will always win over a great steel with a crap heat treat."

He'll then go on to explain why this is best performed while playing Whale mating sounds and the lattice structure of the crystalline microcosmic gamma doo-dads needs to be aligned with the 39th parallel. But it's better if it comes from him. He'll explain it in a way that makes sense....

LMAO!

It’ll be heat treated by peters, with Nathan’s tweaks, I’m just wonder if it’s worth going with these, or possibly 3v, instead.

and there is a new 10" Chopper we're cutting now that I promise will impress. There is a big batch of HDFK in the pipeline. There is also the new Bladesports knives, another run of a Utility Fighter, the Field Knife 2.0, Loren's new DEK1 coming up in addition to the EDC 2.0 in process now, plus some pretty cool projects on the whiteboard. 2018 is going to be amazing, but we need to finish putting 2017 to bed first.

So much of this to be excited for.

Please, someone keep an eye on Nathan. Hold his hand when he crosses the street. Put his seat belt on him when he’s in the car. Blow on his soup to make sure it’s not too hot. We can’t have anything happen to him. Must protect him at all costs!

Hi Nathan,

I was wondering what software you use to model the knives? Also is there an 'Industry Standard' software that most knife makers use?

Thanks a bunch!
Lawrie

Nathan, are you going to make your new batch of UFs (whenever it moves up that big to-do board) with the already tried and tested Elmax in that pattern, your D3V or perhaps even 4V? I understand to offer in different steels will perhaps become too cost prohibitive. Would you be open to doing that pattern as a custom order for those who wish to jazz them up with more exotic handles and wish to order with double-edges? Thank you.

I have no real opinions on cruwear. If you end up making a knife from it I hope to hear your impressions.

I use Pro/ENGINEER.

A lot of makers use SolidWorks.
