Is it just me, or has the vibe on BF been...rough? A drag? IDK...I don't have the words to describe it. Seems to me the last couple of months there have been more squabbling and arguing in threads with people just wedded to their ideas and letting go of nothing.

It's been taking away the pleasure I get from my knife obsession. :grumpy:

Anyone else picking up on this?
 
You're wrong and terrible and should be made to feel bad! ;)

I've seen a bit of that but I'm not sure if it's worse or just more obvious.
There have always been rowdy discussions here so I'm not sure if it's actually getting worse or just more diverse.

Just start bombarding all the negative folks with LOLcats and silly YouTube videos...that should do it.:thumbup:

I've been just bailing on threads and after 7 years here, have started to use the ignore option.

While there have always been strong opinions at times, seems like more people who want to share theirs for 2-3 pages.

Add: I've been reading you/seeing you do that on some of the threads I'm thinking about stabman. You are a good man! I am just tired of reading the junk.

I like to debate, but sometimes I contribute to the negativity by being too stupid to shut my mouth (tie my fingers?) and leave well enough alone. Trying to get better and contribute positively, though.

Just trying to do what I can. :)

I express my opinion a bunch too, but the whole point of the forum experience is supposed to be fun.
We come here to relax, and enjoy the fellowship of other folks who also like knives.

I think sometimes people forget that.
 
IDK, I haven't seen too much of the negativity you speak of - but then again, I don't go to all the forums either. I'm not into automatic knives so I don't go there, etc.

but personally, I'm kind of a d*k [Richard]...probably because I've been wearing a badge for too long [28 years now] and have lost my tolerance for BS. Since I haven't experienced it here though [not yet at least] I think I've been quite cordial, considering the way I 'normally' am....lmfao.
 
Group dynamics does seem to favor the self-selected mutal admiration societies we know as the pack mentality.

There seems to be a tipping point though where players have had enough and wander off.

Then again, modern media has lots of psych-ops going on for all kinds of purposes.

I hope it's just winter and Cabin Fever causing some of the grumpiness and the posting habits of those that are here only to be disruptive. I took more than a year off from all forums because I felt like those that bothered me began to outnumber those I liked talking to.

This is the only one I visit now and I hope it warms up with the weather. There are a few that I certainly wouldn't miss if they disappeared but the good outweigh the bad at this point so I'll stay.

I hear you Druid...I'm a major Richard. Long time social worker here...on Friday I was prepping for a court case with a three year old with severe burns. That is a problem! Esav moved 30 + posts from a thread with people sidetracking on knife knock offs and hammering the people who bought them. The knife an adult chooses to toss in their pocket is not a problem in my book. It was in a cool thread on Persians and was a shame to see it get sidetracked.

Seems to me more threads are heading that way lately.
 
I could be due to the time of year, for many they don't like winter or they simply cannot handle it for being unprepared and cabin fever has caught up with vengeance at the keyboard. There is another thread containing vulgar language by the seller which went rancid off the first post earlier this morning

I hear YOU dood LOL. I get to wrestle and charge the idiots who do the burning; and rush a child to the hospital because they got into mommy's illegally obtained Oxy stash; etc., etc., and prepare my findings/reports for peeps like you in the same court cases...so I know what you mean to the "T".

As to 'keyboard warriors'....meh...they are only words. I don't know of the thread you are talking about but if this applies appropriately:


Whatever I buy, I buy because it's what I want. If it's a cheap knock-off [and i knew it when I bought it] then obviously I know it's going to be 'less' than an original.

An example might be....let's say I bought a kukri in 440C Stainless. obviously it's not a genuine Kukri because they are made from leaf springs [typically in the area of 5160] and the BEST Kukri generally come from Nepal. Doesn't make the knife less pretty...which is why I might have bought it in the first place.

The problem is brand-myopic people. They like one or a few particular brands and everything else just 'sucks.' My response to that is:

It does ebb & flow and lately we have been in a lot of EBB! LOL

I have found myself falling into having to win arguments with idiots too lately and that of course makes me one!:foot: LOL
Perhaps winter is dragging a bit? Spring will happen soon!
 
I've never been negatively affected by what happens here. Yes, there do seem to be a few more trolls, or others exhibiting troll-like behavior lately. If I stop enjoying the spectacle of it, I just pop on over to the Traditional forum. It's darned-right pleasant in there. Just pull up a rocking chair, take out your trusty TRADITIONAL knife, and whittle a bit while listening to the tall tales and "back in my day" stories.:D Seriously, it's a great place to hang out.:cool:

I actually kind of enjoy watching melt-downs over in the W & C forum, where most unpleasantness ends up, and checking out the OTHER forum, it's even funnier to see what folks talk about, plus the scenery is usually quite nice.;)

As can be said of any hang-out, make it what you want it to be. Contribute more LOL cats and goofy memes. Try to smooth over an obvious misunderstanding with some well-worded wisdom, but for crying out loud, try not to make it worse. Gee, I'm starting to sound like a mature adult. When did I get here?

Anyway, this place is always much more positive than negative, so I keep coming back. Every single day.

Hey, Spring is just around the corner, as well, so here's to happier times ahead!

I FEEL..Its a lack of respect to others in here.
I have seen a shift over the last 9-10 months

MY IGNORE list has grown by at the least 25 people
I just WILL NOT Deal with ever.
EITHER because they are an ego manic or simply an ass.

Either way..
I stick with my CORE friends..
I have gone so much as..
REQUIRING people I have NEVER DEALT with..TO have to sign for the knife.
And ..I have seen buyers twist verbage..
Recently a guy a sold to said..LOOKING FORWARD to like "new knife"
HOLD THE CAB...I never stated LIKE NEW in my sales thread.
Sad as it is to say..SOME of the newer members have been a bit more to handle in BEING PERFECTLY clear
with what they are buying... Often I must SPELL IT OUT to many.. Frustrating to say the least.
Then I get them to email me -That we are CLEAR==CRYSTAL clear and I have a paper trail of back and forth emails..
TRADE or SALE..
I am covering myself..

Im sure its a phase..
The Great MODS we have are on it and Im certain we will see more action
IF not more BANNED immature people that try to ruin it for all of us..
