The AXIS lock is spoiling me for other locking mechanisms

I've owned AXIS lock knives before, but a few years into knives as a hobby -- as opposed to many years of owning knives without thinking that much about them, if you know what I mean -- and with more experience with lots of types of locks, I'm finding that the AXIS really spoils me for other mechanisms.

It flicks open quickly any number of ways, but equally importantly it also slow-rolls open with no effort. Deployment is smooth and consistent. It's fun to fidget with. It maintains a good (if light) detent. My fingers are never in the blade path. Lockup is super-secure.

I was just comparing a much more expensive frame lock flipper with similar specs to my 908 Stryker, expecting to find myself wanting to sell the Stryker . . . and found that the one I wanted in my hand was the 908.

Anyhoo, just a shower thought, I guess. Can't end a shower thought post without some knife pics, though. :D

I love the Axis lock. May not be as strong as a Tri-Ad, but I’ve never had any issues with my Axis equipped Benchmades. Rock solid and super fast opening action.

I agree with the fingers in the blades way when operating. I've owned a large CRK Inkosi, thought I'd love it...I did not. It's a great product, but $300+ for something that could slice a finger off if while closing...um no.

I say this while typing with one hand & opening & closing a DOAT scaled mini grip with sheep blade. Click, clack...click, clack. mmm.

I love the Axis lock too but there is one area of it just to be kept in mind: knives with this lock can be more easily shaken open than most other locks (framelock, liner lock, lockback, etc).

Totally agree! I used to be mainly into frame locks and have a few ti versions as well with the lock bar insert and over travel stop etc but The axis locks have spoiled me for sure! its a matter of personal preference i suppose but Is there a better locking system out there? I know theres stronger out there but for a daily carry i cant think of any at the moment id rather use over the axis. I like push buttons a lot also lately but that comes in second place for my preferences.

I agree. It makes me dislike the liner locks I have owned for years and my back locks seem so slow to close now. Even tried the Spydie version on a Manix 2 and it just does not work as well for me

The axis lock is pretty great. I actually prefer the auto-axis variant, but I know it’s not an option for everyone.

Is that the sequel in the back? I keep seeing the bm 707 and i want one! The silver one in front of it is nice too. Is that the 705 le? Then looks like mini presidio and a cla i think. All nice options. I have a mini presidio manual and the handle is great. I do like the thwack of opening my assisted barrage but my favorite axis lock in my collection is probably the 940 though. its soo smooth!

Correct, that’s a 707 in the back. It’s actually my wife’s. The next one is a 705-02 that I picked up about 12 years ago. Then a mini Presidio auto and a Presidio II auto.

Your wife has good taste in knives! Im trying to get mine on board and got her a little kershaw squaw creek but seems it ended up in the kitchen drawer instead of her purse...Maybe its too small.

I forgot the presidios come in several different handles. Mine is even different from those two In a g10 version instead of aluminum althou i like aluminum handle knives the best along with cf or ti dor my top 3 then g10 next.

She mentioned needing a good knife for work and seemed to like my 705, so I gave her the 707 for Christmas a few years ago.

They made a Presidio ultra with G10 handles for a while. I bought my mini Presidio before they were available and the Presidio II after they stopped making them. Regardless of the handle and blade material, they’re all awesome knives to carry and use.

I agree OP, probably my overall favorite locking mechanism.

An Axis lock on an AO actually makes me want to de-assist them, just to gain the missing close flip that's part of the locks versatility.

I haven't, but I think about it every time I use a Barrage.

Count me in. As a lefty it's the only lock I'm comfortable using, though I guess a back lock is just as ambidextrous. The frame and liner locks leave me cold, especially since they're almost always set up for right hand use. Plus I hate putting my fingers in the path of the blade.

Last week I decided to try a frame/liner lock and picked up a Massdrop/Ferrum Forge Gent. It's a nice knife and fun to flip open but, sure enough, as I tried to close it with my left hand, the blade dropped onto the knuckle of my thumb. Did I mention that the blade was shaving sharp out of the box?
