I have been a big fan of Scandinavian style knives for a while now and was going to purchase a new one a couple of weeks ago, but backed out. I figured hell I’ll just make one. This knife had several “firsts” for me and I’m really please with the final result. It was my first scandi grind, though it’s not perfect, but it was all freehand and no jigs were used. It was also my first hidden tang, multi material handle, bolster, use of stag crown and first back sewn sheath.

I have dubbed it the AZuukko because I wanted to incorporate materials from my area rather than the typical birch, reindeer and leather you see in a lot of knives of this style.

Specs:

1/8” 1095 steel, scandi grind, aged / etched finish
3.5” blade from tip to handle
13/16ths blade width
3.25” cutting edge
4.25” hidden tang (5.5” from bolster to stag crown)
The handle is made up with copper and red fiber spacers, Mesquite root wood (chainsawed and cut personally), Ironwood burl in the center, Deer stag crown and a copper and brass pin.

It was a hell of a project, but the value of what I learned while making it is priceless.

Hope you guys like it.

I like it, and I am normally not a fan of stuff like this. It looks great!

That is frickin awesome. Those grinds are amazing when you consider that you did them by hand. Plus that is one gnarly piece of stag.:D:D

I usually don't care for knives where the handle mass is so much greater than that of the blade...but that is beautiful!!

Very nicely done. Classic looking piece.
