The BA III Appreciation Thread

This one I got off the bay has a swedge.. very stabby… Is it a variant…? Or do most have a swedge….? Or do most have rounded perimeter…..? I just want to know…..,
Here’s a couple pictures
Sorry thickness on this is 0.15
Also green linen ( edit Old school black micarta)

Also scored a Buffalo soldier a year or two ago zero Convexed , don’t know why I tried to sell it.. took it down fast after holding it again.. I’m surprised nobody jumped but I’m glad it worked out for me. Beautiful green linen and razor sharp. ( Edit old school black micarta)
Actually both are razor sharp 😬

Beautiful old school jungle BA III
These all had a factory clip point on this specific variant.

I’ve Been looking for that variant for over 10 years. Great score!! Thanks for sharing.

Not many BA III models have this feature.

Have a LE with a clip point, but it was ordered back when Busse would do some custom requests many moons ago.

🤔 They're both freakin' sweet, but I believe both have black canvas handles. Linen micarta is a much finer weave. Check out Nismo's black coated PD ^^^, it has linen micarta. I can't quite make out if green or black linen, but it's definitely linen.
This one is green linen. A lot of appreciative fondling has made the scales a bit darker.

That jungle is definitely canvas. Linen has a much finer woven grain texture with a “silky feel”. Busse green linen is my personal favorite handle material next to snakeskin.

I know I fondled the hell out of it. I sold it to you.
But I thought these were just not handled as much with sweat and blood .
Apparently the old school canvas has a green hue that makes it hard to tell.
As for the feel of silky , I can’t really say the difference is that much.
No Regrets

Yes, def the old green hue black canvas for sure. TBH, if it were my user, I'd prefer the canvas on it, & again- hawt lookin' stripped & convexed. Just figured you'd want to know. 🤙

Nice score bro!!
Any clue why the Busse logo is lower on it compared to the ones in Nismo's pics?

Seeing these always makes me a little sad.

When I found out about busse ba3 was the knife I wanted as my user. I quickly found out that it was fetching collector prices. And I was going to university at the time on a very limited budget.

These were never in the user price point until about now, but I have so many great knives that fill that role nowdays it's hard to justify getting one now.

So, I see these, sigh a bit, and go look at my SOB or park ranger, boss jack, or UG, or...list goes on.

I saw that one on Bay. It went for a good deal, but I mentally backed out once again way before the auction ended.

I don’t blame you, but I’ve always wanted to try this one probably because of the high price tag and why they fetched so much?
The BJ and UG are way bigger
The last ba3 LE on ebay went for over 6 so I backed out . Was going to bid at the last second like I always do but when the price jumped I backed out. This is a LE but with a coating which is 250 dollars less so no big deal to me.
So back to the green linen …
Turns out you can feel a silky feeling if you drag your forefinger down the rope cut.. who knew…
Holding in your hand I don’t think you can see the difference.
So my Bowie cut Shsj is green linen the rest is Os black micarta

I can’t see a difference on the Buffalo Soldier
But I can feel the difference

I can’t see a difference on the Buffalo Soldier
But I can feel the difference

The layers of weave are the same as the others- All are canvas. Linen is a tighter, finer thread weave, with more layers of linen sheets in the resin. Rope cut shows this difference best.
I'll look for more examples in rope cut style handles , but in the meantime this might help:
My SJ's- top & bottom are tan canvas, Desert SJ is green Snakeskin linen micarta, the last is black paper.

Thanks Jaxx
Ok, so the silky feeling doesn’t matter after all . I’m confused. The Bowie grind is definitely smoother and green compared to the others??

Other factors can be- sharper cutting blades on CNC machines, & previous wear/fondling
The silky feeling is a factor, but you'd have to feel a linen rope cut handle for comparison. ETA: Also just occurred to me that the previous owner might have lightly hand sanded the handle to make smoother & "cleaner" looking. Easy to do with rope cut style.

Here's a close-up of green linen micarta. Pretty sure this is from my CGFBM, so Fusion handle. Check out the tight weave.

Also, this might help for telling the difference, a Google answer.
