The ball point pen.

I use a Pilot Dr Grip Balance ball point (not gel), easy on arthritic fingers, enough forward weight to write well.

J jackknife you would like it.

I carry around a ball point that I got in the mail as an advertisement. I have a lot of mechanical pencils but rarely carry one.
As a kid I used ball points and fountain pens. for awhile I bought the fountain pens that use the plastic ink cartridges but I would leave the cartridge out and just fill the barrel of the pen with ink. Usually they wouldn't leak, much. In college I became aware of pentel mechanical pencils and used them, and continued to use them through my career. I would carry one in my pocket in case I needed to sketch for someone while I was away from my desk, and I had one on my desk that I always used when there. Now I work from home and for sketching or working in my wood shop I use mechanical pencils but I use a pen when writing lists and things like that. I have not used wooden pencils in a very long time, although we use wooden pencils in red, yellow and green for certain purposes at work. Why do I carry a ball point instead of a rollerball or something that should be more reliable- they don't mess up my clothes as much if I put one in my pants with the point sticking out.

Ultra-fine sharpies get the most use in my shop. I like the way they mark on plastics. Pens and pencils never look the way I expect them to these days-the 1980’s were just twenty years ago after all…

I should find a nice mechanical pencil like that one. I miss just whipping one out and doodling.

They’re the best I’ve found so far and not made in China. I bought a pair maybe six years ago. Still using and carrying the same ones.

I think I might go with something in the 2mm size. I used to use a drafting lead holder and really liked the ability to use one side until it gets broad and flat to shade and then using the sharp portion for lettering in cartoons.
