These two bad boys started me collecting knives probably around 12 years ago off and on. Am I the only one who keeps their first? What started you off and do you still keep them around?

My first blades are loooong gone unfortunately. Hold onto yours though, the sentiment to them is priceless.

This photo shows a progression of some of my carry knives over a long period of time. The little Buck 3rd from the left is probably the first one I ever bought due to interest in knives.

Sometime around 1958, when I was about 6, I asked my dad if I could adopt a knife from the tool drawer. He said, "sure". Carbon steel, equal end jack with clip blade and pen. Gone decades ago. But that was my first pocket knife. It was my pocket knife until I was about 12, when my dad bought me a new Schrade stockman with stainless blades.

My first couple of folders are gone. I was a kid. I have retained just about all of my knives since about 10 years old. I have misplaced/lost a couple that bother me a little from time to time.

Hey guys,
I just launched my online store. I've loved knives my entire life on my 5th birthday I got my First knife, it was a Swiss army knife from my grampa. Now I've collected more knives then I probably should own and couldn't be happier. Launching my site got me thinking of my first knife and how excited i was when I got it. That last gift I got my grampa before he passed away was this John Wayne bowie knife I still have and will have until I die.

my very first knife, when I was 5 years old, was a no name Barlow. That was back in 1950. Kept it until I was a Dad myself, and gave it to my son.

Age 5 it was a Imperial 2 blade Jack which I was able to keep up with till I was 10 and I planted it but got zero germination.

Barlow from my Grandpa. I was 6 or 7, lost it in a year or so.

Grandpa died the next year or so, of cancer. Only 66 years old, never went to the doctor. Family found out later that he had been peeing blood for years. Tough old farmers didn't go to doctors in the early 1970's. Sure wish my son could have met him.

My first knife was a Schrade Walden paratrooper switchblade that my father gave me when I was 4 years old (in 1971). It was issued to him when he was in the military. He showed me how to use it, and told me to not ever threaten anyone with it or use it as a weapon.....or carry it to school. I still have it.

My first "real" knife (prepare to feel old) was an original CRKT K.I.S.S. My father bought it for me after I used a borrowed standard issue BSA knife to get my whitting chip. I kept it a surprisingly long time (~4years or so) until I lost hiking in the Rocky Mountains in my final year of Boy Scouts. Loved that knife so much I recently purchased one solely out of nostalgia.

Technically my first knife was a vic classic that I found at an amusement park when I was 3 ( my mom took it till I was old enough, and still needs to go d it for me )
But that one probably doesn't count, so my real first was a dollar store multi function knife that my dad bought me at age 7. It was a piece of crap that is long gone, but it was enough of a knife for me to learn how to handle one.
My dad never taught me how, just told me not to cut myself and knife handling must've come naturally because I never cut myself with it ( I've had more of them, and they do come sharp enough to cut you )

Mine was either a hobo knife given to me by my uncle when I was maybe 10 as a happy camper award (probably for being the best beer fetcher most likely) or a Cub Scout knife. Can't really remember.

SAK Huntsman for my 8th birthday. Still regularly carry one today and I'm 50. My children got the same for their 8th birthday.

SAK when I was about 5. it was given to me because the tip of the main blade had snapped off, didn't matter to me though. I liked the saw and magnifying glass.
