The best CUTTING Axis lock folder.

I don't have an 806D2 yet, but I'll throw in a strong recommendation for the 710HS. It cuts circles around the 730, as well as most other tactical folders in its size.

I will contribute to the chorus- 710 with modified (thinned -out ) M2 and recurve blade, no contest.

However my conclusion, based on the same justification, is slightly different. Axis AFCK handle fits my hand noticeably better than 710 one and this overweighs for me slightly better cutting performance of 710 recurved blade. Also, AFCK is easier to sharpen due to the lack of recurve.

Advice – try to handle them before buying. The handling comfort and security in my opinion is more important than minor difference in blade cutting performance as itself.

BTW, I would like BENCHMADE to make Axis Lock equipped knife with AFCK handle and fully flat ground (like SPYDERCO Military) D2 steel blade. This would be real cutter!

Great idea! I just had to decide between the 806D2 and 710HS. I opted for the 806D2 for the handle but I might still have to get a 710HS (this knife knut stuff is contagious ;) ) I also seriously considered the Spyderco Calypso for it's full flat ground VG-10 blade and micarta handle. I'd love to see a full flat ground Axis AFCK in D2 or M2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but either of those steels would be better than VG-10 for the thin edge of a full flat grind.

diletante,
D2 or M2 would be better edge-wise, yes, but they can't match VG-10 in corrosion resistance. Also D2 and M2 aren't quite as fine as VG-10.

For whatever it's worth, I've handled almost all axis locks except for the Griptilian (The mini-griptilian felt crappy enough!) and the Axis TSEK/Axis AFCK (But i've handled a regular AFCK, which felt great), i've also never handled a BM 770 but with my size hands, it would've been a waste of time.
For me there are 4 knives that stand out in the ergo department: 721, 730, and the 806D2/805.
Basically from what i've heard here is that without D2 or M2, pretty much all BMs are created equal cutting-wise. Unfortunately i'm one of those who has alot of trouble coming to grips with BT2, and as such, I cannot find myself enthused about the 806D2 (if it were satin it'd be the easy choice).
I'm thinking seriously about the 730.

710HS

I have cut extensively with the griptilian, and osborne knives and the 710HS remains my favorite Benchmade cutter.

Caveat - I have not yet done any work with the new Axis AFCK in D2.
