Al Mar Osprey

The knife is 3 3/4 inches long open, 2 1/4 inches long closed has a 1 1/2 inches long AUS-8 Rc 57-59 stainless steel blade and weights 1/2 oz.

Priced between $100-$150 (dependind on handle material), Very sharp, Great point and SOLID.

I carried one every day for many years and when the lock back finally failed (due to pocket lint and lack of care) I sent it back to Al Mar to be fixed and they sent me A NEW ONE FREE.

Does or did anyone else own one?

I was shooting pics at the store awhile back of the new Ospeys and was quite impressed with the little things, I thought the hole for the keychain looked small though? but the new Apple core handle and tiger handles are nice looking.

I have carried a Spyderco Mini-Police necklace knife on my keychain for several years now, It's all stainless steel and sharp as a razor and it still looks like new after several years of carry, so I would have recommend it for a keychain knife.

I like the Spyderco, but I don't like serrations.

I also think the Osprey has a better point and feels better in my hand.

I am looking for a good keychain knife, and that is very impressive!
I will probably end up getting a Spyderco Jester or ladybug:)

I don't really get the point of a single-blade keychain knife. I'd MUCH rather carry something like a Victorinox Rambler or Classic, or a mini Leatherman. Those have tiny blades plus tools. For "real" cutting jobs I always have a better folder on me anyway. To each his own, I reckon.

I'd have a hard time spending the $100-150 posted earlier, but they are a little more reasonable here, if you really want one. I don't know if there are still some left, but I'd check it out soon. I myself prefer my Swiss Classic on my keychain. I've also been known to clip my ProTech Runt to my keys.

Actually I use my ladybug as my ultimate PC folder. People rarely flinch when I use it for a cutting task.
BTW what's the story behind Al Mar? I couldn't get any info on their site... Also strangely that red square seal seems to be a name in Chinese.

Al Mars site has always stunk I thought, as far as the red seal I always assumed it was the chinese letters for al mae, but thats just a assumption. if you want some info on Al Mar's knives I have thier dealer catoulogue here just ask Ill type in what you want out of it or check our Al Mar page I put allot of info with the knives.

this new Fossolized Apple Core Osprey is very pretty:

BTW the Al MAr Osprey's are not 100-120 bucks if you shop the right places.

And as far as a link close to here with sell out prices, they are about the same as some other places everyday prices.

All knives listed above are really nice. Since I usually carry at least one EDC (sometimes 2) at all times, the only knives I have on my keychains are the Cold Steel Urban Pals (2 of them). The push dagger style is short, non instrusive, handy kydex sheath with keyring and provides a quick edge whenever I need it. The only gripe are the kraton handles, as they grab the inside of my pockets when I pull my keys out. But best of all, they're like less than $20. Super cheap.

Really too small for me. I have been carrying the Spyderco Jester lately, and for my money, it is the best smallest knife currently going.

I love the Osprey model though - very high quality made by Moki. They are great miniatures.

I have three of them in a display case. Soon to have more. I just noticed those AG Russell exclusives yesterday. Damn they are nice.

I have two that I switch around; a clip point Cold Steel Tuff Lite and a Gerber LST. Both are scary sharp and neither look imposing.

I've been using a Kershaw Chive on my keychain for a couple of months now. Even banging against keys, change and other assorted misc pocket "stuff" it still looks like new and even keeps a decent edge. Although that abalone Al Mar does look nice.

I've had a red Spyderco Ladybug on my keyring for a couple of years now. I prefer to carry my Victorinox Classic in my watch pocket...if it was attached to keys, it would be clumsy for me to use the Classic.

Hey guys,

Am I the only one that has owned one?

These are great little beauties.

Well made and solid.

I'm not trying to compare them to anything; just wondering about others opions on this knife. :)

The Al Mar is a beauty but I seem to abuse my keychain knife more than my other knives so $50 or $60 is too much for me to spend. A lot of the time it is the only knife on me so I use it for all kinds of non cutting applications. Right now I have a swiss army knife with a light and pen but I've also had a Ladybug and a Leatherman Micra tool.

Crabby Bob, welcome to BFC.

Me too, that black micarta Osprey cost me $92 a long time ago; I thought very hard before buying it.

Like I said in my first post

"I carried one every day for many years and when the lock back finally failed (due to pocket lint and lack of care) I sent it back to Al Mar to be fixed and they sent me A NEW ONE FREE."

That's many years of great use and having it replaced free.

I think it was worth it. :)

Best keychain knife I have found and have been using going on three years now is a R.J. Martin "Beanieball". Small straight blade of A-2 steel with a wickedly sharp chisle grind. It fits in a kydex sheath and the entire overall package is @ 3 1/2". Very discreet and its like carrying a razor. Awesome little cutter. Check it out on his site.

I love my Hartsfield kozuka key chain knife. It's 1/16" thick and really cuts. It has a cord that attaches to my belt loop for a quick one hand draw, and makes it really easy to fish my keys out of my pocket. This is the second one I have from Phill and it incorporates custom changes to improve it from the first one to meet my needs. It was well worth the 2 year wait!
