the best knife you have never owned

I am not sure where this thread is heading. My interpretation of the OP was like.. what's the one that got away type of thing. What knife did we wish we had pulled the trigger on but never did? I guess the thread has been sufficiently derailed but I'll still post my best response for my interpretation of the question.

For many years I always wanted a Microtech Makora II and a Halo V. I still check them out every so often and especially drool over the Green camo Halo V's. I realize that it's kind of an impractical knife but that doesn't erase the cool factor for me. I had a bad experience with MT customer service once... ends up I don't do business with them anymore.

Another knife that I never owned is one from Randall. They are from my home state and I always held them in high esteem. I like a couple of their fighter models and the small boot knife. Almost pulled the trigger a couple times but never actually did. I believe a Randall or two would fit nicely into my collection.

Other than that I've bought and sold from most reputable production companies, even had some nice customs, and in the end have kept a selection of all of my favorites. I think my collection is well rounded, enough for what I use knives for these days, and really can't think of another maker or design that I "need" to have.

Of course that won't stop me from buying more and more and more as new cool stuff comes out.

I wouldn't worry as much about the Microtech CS as far as the autos go. Most dealers will be able to replace your spring within the week and won't have the shipping requirements that Microtech does. If you had a problem with a liner lock or framelock, though, a dealer might not be able to help you with that.

It was actually a brand new knife, a Socom Delta with all metal handles and I sat down in my porch chair and when I got up bent the hell out of the pocket clip. I mailed the knife back with all of it's original packaging, which in retrospect was probably a dumb thing to do, and MT accepted my fedex package and claimed that there was no knife inside. I maintain that they probably replaced the clip and resold the knife. I guess someone could have stolen the knife out of the box and repackaged it?? But seems unlikely. Also, I would assume postal workers in MT's neighborhood would guess that knives going in were broken and knives going out were fine. But, there was nothing that I could do, at least fedex had automatic $100 insurance on their packages and I wasn't out the full price of the knife. I did learn, however, to fully insure packages from then out.. so there's something..

If you believed that Microtech actually committed theft, stealing your knife and reselling it, you can report it to the appropriate authorities.

If you still remember or have the serial number of the knife you could post it in Feedback so that others can watch out for the knife if it pops up for sale.

Otherwise that doesn't exactly sound like a Microtech CS issue.

I had no way of proving who stole the knife either way. I just know that it was packaged in all original packaging, packaged well and mailed through the most expensive and what I thought to be at the time, secure shipping method.

I never wrote down any serial numbers and like I said the box went in with the knife, which was my fault. This was a while ago and I am over it. Sometimes we all have to accept a loss in the knife game.

My issue was exactly with MT CS as I didn't believe what she was telling me when I was on the phone with her multiple times. Like why did they accept the package if it was ripped open or damaged, she said it wasn't, then how could someone have gotten the knife out? Etc. Like I said, I'm over it. I don't have much need for OTF's anyway, and the Socom Delta was a pretty sweet knife, but there are others out there.

If you think someone at Microtech CS stole the knife then please make a post in Feedback so that anyone sending items to them knows to take the appropriate precautions and to ask the right questions if the same issue of a missing knife comes up. Other people who may have had knives stolen and claimed "missing" might chime in as well.

Again, I have no proof as to who did the actual theft. I only have what I feel to be what happened, my only viable recourse was to chose not to support them with any more of my money.
Thanks for your concern.

The best knife I never owned is a sprint run PM2. I refuse to play the game with pre-orders and ebay flippers and all the drama. Got me a standard PM2 and use it. The ZT LE's are kind of like that but not what I consider to be good knives to begin with.

I think the best knife is the one you with you had, or even better, one that doesn't exist. For me, I'd love a Swamp Rat Rodent 6 in INFI or CPM 3V with the top guard chopped off. I hope your listening Busse!

For me it would be these RJ Martin hollow handles, Raven or Blackbird, whichever. At $2000 the designs, with their reversed Parrish-style sawteeth, are so neat they are worth it for their combat-optimized sawbacks, and well though-out points, but sadly out of my reach....:

BEST is a very strange defination, do you mean favorite, do you mean the one you would never sell, do you mean what?? When you say BEST???????

I am currently most pleased with my EMERSONS................

Lefted Handed CQC-7s (2), and alone Commander all seraated.

If money were no object, I would have a Hinderer in my collection. Probably an XM-18 3.5 in either the spanto or spearpoint grind with a black, G-10 presentation scale (pretty simple when it comes to that kind of stuff). And as long as we're dreaming, we'll throw in a Steel Flame pocket clip to go on it, too!

Toss up, large Sebenza in BG42 or MT Socom. Both were and are as good as I'll ever need and I could have stopped with either and been happy.

Emerson roadhouse. I don't know why I love it so much. I hate tantos and dislike liner locks. But I think this would still be just an amazing knife!!!
