It can't be any other pair than the BK9 & BK16

Not much you can't accomplish with that pair, fo sho. I do wish the 16 had a longer handle though.

That pair will get you around in style. Ready to tackle anything.

A dynamic duo for sure.
That Niner looks awesome. A workhorse!!

I use my 9 alot processing fire wood

I should carry my 16 more on my daily hikes with my hound. Kinda like alittle bigger than the 16 so I carry my 9 azwelke

Replace the 9 with the 20 and you have perfection, as long as you have the 16 the extra weight of the 20 will only be a benefit as you'll only be using it for big knife tasks.

My 20 completely replaced my 9 for all big knife duties.

Well, my first-ever Becker was a 9 and I just ordered a dynamite rig for it from JD at The 710 Custom Sheaths, so it is still certainly in the running for half a "best pair possible" competition, but here lately I've found myself gravitating to another pair, the BK21 and BK14, piggybacked with two 710 sheaths:

If I anticipated doing a ton of batoning while out.... wherever, I'd opt for the 9. But for chopping, de-limbing, cutting paracord or cleaning/dressing fish/small game, this combo can't be beat for most of my purposes.

If I need something bigger than a 9, it would probably be for some wood chopping. I'd have to break out my Tramontina machete for that one.

I hear that. My 9 is light and covers most all my chopping needs, but when I want a heavy beast, I break out the E-nep, haha:

Damm Warrior what's your preferred way to carry that? Dangle or scout? 🤓

Neck carry.

I need to get a sheath made for it, but dang, it would cost over twice what I paid for the blade. Probably make a cardboard sheath for it, haha.

Any "pair" I would put together would have to include this thing. Its a Herter's "Improved Bowie" that I ordered from Herter's some 40 years ago. I think I paid about $2 for it. This is a picture of the "spare" I bought at the time. Its never been sharpened or used. The "user" has been on my belt while hunting, fishing, hiking and camping innumerable times. I wore the sheath out on my user, now its in a cheap nylon thing I bought off eBay. It holds an edge very well. It has cleaned numerous animals from deer to quail. Somewhat easy to sharpen. Catalog says its 1095 steel. It has become part of who I am

The 20 is only slightly bigger than a 9 with minimal weight gain that's not really noticeable, and the size/weight increase is a benefit for just about every task. Longer and taller blade is easier to baton or chop with, can eat through a fallen tree without too much fatigue unlike a Tramontina or similar jungle machete, the balance and weight make it a joy to use for basically everything. With a small knife for fine work I've never needed anything bigger.

My favorite Becker pairing is a 6 and a 20 paired with a 5 and a 14... oh yeah!

The 9 was my first Becker, and still my favorite for sentimental reasons, but yeah the 20 has supplanted it in my typical camping loadout. I like the 21 very much as well, but if I had to pick one it would be the 20... I can do "machete" stuff better than with the 21.
