The BEST Survival Knife!

any knife better than no knife.
a good knife better than any knife.
what's a good knife?........too subjective.
there is no "one knife" that everyone will ever agree on.
what's the best survival knife?........forget about it.
I have a few knives, but still not sure on the answer.

Here ya go

I like this one because it can turn into a sling shot and cut through fences. If your knife can't do these things you will not survive.

"In reality, the best survival knife is the one you have with you."

My problem with this statement is that it does not pass the criteria for critical thinking.
If you change it a bit to say,"Any knife with you is better in a survival situation than one sitting at home because it's too big to carry." I'm fine with it.
But back to critical thinking which requires precise use of language and reason.
A screwdriver is not better than a jackhammer when you need a jackhammer because a screwdriver is more convenient to carry.

My toolbox has lots of tools which I'm sure is true for everyone here.I don't ask people which is the best tool without discussing what job I need to do because it could not be answered intelligently.

Also on the subject. Why must we carry our survival knives on us when we have vehicles and many have Back Up Bags with an assortment of tools in those bags? Even the mountain men had bags with gear on their horses. I'm all for carrying a small sharp knife 24/7 for fine cutting or last ditch survival but to say it equals an ax,hatchet, khukuri, machete or big bowie as a "survival" knife is not correct as I see it.

"In reality, the best survival knife is the one you have with you."

I think it's safe to say most of us on this forum would have our high quality blades with us if we were ever in a self reliance event.

Exactly, I hate it when people say "The best survival knife is the one you have with you."
As you said, surely if we are regulars on forums such as this then we are'nt going to find ourselves out in the wilds with a cheap monkey metal knife that was made in China.
An urban survival/disaster situation would likely throw me off skeeter a little but even then I'd have something such as my Vic Swiss Spirit in my pocket !

Give the Schrade SCHF9 a try. Great knife. I love mine and they have never let me down.

If I am in the woods I have a sharpened crowbar on me always.

This may sound totally crazy... ... but I have come to the realization that I can get along just great without all these fine cutting tasks everybody seems to think is so important. In the field, my big honking knife is used for cutting, digging, chopping, hammering, batoning and prying.... I would be hardpressed to replace it, more so than a fine cutting blade.;)

^I'm with stupid here. I'm also in full agreement with the old saying, "the best survival knife is the Fletcher Knife you have with you.":D
