The Biggest HAND MADE KNIVES in the world!!

Dear Friends,

Having hung out with artists for many years, it is more than likely the folks who did this prank have no agenda and their pieces have no intended meaning whatsoever other than to be cool and outlandish and to get them noticed as artists. At best they are probably just wanting to mess with the status quo and shake things up. I guess that's not much unlike DDDs stated motive for posting them here, hmmmm.

As for whether it is art or not, who cares. For my book, its such cheap crap and juvenile sensationalism its hardly worth wasting breath on.

As for positive or negative impression re cutlery, that is of course in the eye of the beholder. One could easily see the images as showing how ludicrous and cheap and blown out of proportion and unrealistic and misplaced the whole knife-fear-thing is.

Lets face it though, part of the fascination of knifes is the very real dichotomy of their lethality and utilitarian functionality. This is an issue that is as old as the blood that pumps throughout the long and windy road of our ongoing heritage as human beings. It is as old, or older, than Cain and Abel. It is as much a part of our genetic collective memory as the rose, the serpent and the lily. As a species we are hardwired to not be passive when it comes to stuff like this!

Respectfully, Phil

Joe, you've posted some hunting pics that would most likely be picked apart by the same group of people who have a problem with knives, because that subset of people probably view hunting kills and this type of art in the same light.

For me, viewing this art (remember, it's in the eye of the beholder) requires me to balance it against the display of bloody, dead animals here on Blade Forums. For me, it's a balancing act in objectivity.

Bob

EDIT: I'm playing devil's advocate here, not trying to push any agenda, incidentally.

Bob you are an ntelligent man and to compare a picture of a large cardboard knife stuck thru a person and fake blood to a picture of a legally harvested animal and the use of hunting knives on a knife forum is well how do I put it ...... Not a very good comparison :)

Don't get me wrong I commend you on your vegan life style and respect your opinion on not hunting, eating meat or using animal byprouducts.

Happy Easter :)

;):DJoe, I used the words I did only to make a point about how many others, not us, might very well view both examples (bloody animals and cardboard knife murder) in the same light.

IMHO, better it be viewed as objectively as possible within this forum, rather than subjectively. At least that was what I was attempting to express. As, of course, the vegan devil's egg advocate that I be.:D Maybe I mighta been "eggin'" ya on a little? Nah, nevah.;)

Interesting art, interesting comments etc. However, per BladeForums guidelines this thread probably belongs over in the Community Forums, not here.
