Very Cool. This is the blade that was made in the early-mid '80s and buried in Minnesota in 1989!

RVO3VOM found it on his third trip to the hills of northern MN. So, 3 trips, over 1,500 miles traveled, 600 holes dug, and a ton of bad directions later, he was able to lay claim to this very cool blade. There was absolutely "NO" rust on the blade. It was simply stained from the lithium grease that it was packed in.

A double-cut blast later and WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! This great little "Nuclear Payload" blade looked like it had just been finished.

Nice find Drew!!!!!!

Congrats again!

That's a beauty! Great design. I wouldn't be able to resist carrying and using it (not that I'd try to resist).

You weren't kidding Jerry. She really did clean up nice.

After all those miles, the biting flies/gnats/mosquitoes, the Timberwolf sighting and all the extra holes dug; I have to say that it was well worth it. I now have a great story to go along with an awesome addition to my growing Busse family.

I was a bit worried when I got the first look at her. I didn't know if the staining on the blade would be permanent. I called Jerry from the top of the Knob and let him know that the first "payload" had been uncovered. He sounded just as excited as I felt.:)

Well, the trip back home has done wonders for her. Now she's going to see Mr. Rowe for a fitting. I think a sheath with tooling that matches the etching and, as Jerry suggested to me, a scalloped mouth to match the front of the scales will look perfect.
I still haven't decided on the style of sheath (it will be more for display than actual carry) but I'm open to suggestions.

Jerry - Thank you for everything! - Burying her, leading me to her (in a round-about way) and shining her back up. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!

Wow! It cleaned up nicely!

Congrats Drew :)

The front guard looks very similar to the one used on the SwampRats.

Thanks chiseen, OwenM, Andrew & Eric!

I'd like to know what you think of my Kenny Rowe plan.
A sheath with tooling that matches the etching and, as Jerry suggested to me, a scalloped mouth to match the front of the scales.

What do you think? What about the sheath style? I'm leaning toward the Strap Pouch or Pouch -
K. Rowe pics - and some type of Oak Leave & Acorn tooling as seen on the Pin Loc.

Thanks for you input guys!!:D

YINT,

Wow. Very nice find. Good Work!
I can't wait until there are clues for one in WA, ID, OR
Sorry Idahoskunk, I know I would be encroaching, but.....

Drew, Congrats, she came out, good as new!!:D I am going to
get one of Rowe's Strap pouches for my BA III, one of these days. Sounds like your sheath will be as cool as your knife.:)

Wow! She's beautiful Drew!

Congrats again!

The pouch would be the sweetest rig for the BKPD:D
I've got the same oak/acorn pattern on a pouch for one of my Badger e's and there really doesn't seem to be a need for a strap (especially on something smaller;))

Kenny's work ROCKS!!! Let us know what you decide.

RVO3VOM congrats one more time!!

you are a lucky son of a gun, dedicated digger to say the least.

if i had it i would go with the rowe and carry it, or sell it to some other dedicated busse fan out west who would love to have it!

cool blade!!!!!!!!

Before the rework I thought she was nice, but now... WOW!!! Have fun with her, you earned it.

Thanks for all the nice words everyone.:)

I'm thinking that she might find herself going deer hunting this fall. I just hope that she will see some use.

Idaho -- Got anyone in mind? ;):p;)

Strabs & Chip -- Thanks for the input! Since the BKPD doesn't have a lanyard hole, my only concern with the pouch is having it low enough to draw the blade but still retain it securely.
Well, as soon as she comes home I'll be callin' Mr. Rowe. I'm sure he'll be able to find the perfect compromise.

It's on some island, buried a while ago and I never heard that it was found.

I might have to go looking in June. :D

i guess i missed something...
You dug this knife out of the ground?
Did the maker have a contest?
