Finally here!

This is the first ever Everest Kothimoda Katana. 35 inches overall, 10 inch handle. Blade is 7/32 thick, 1 inch wide, and is hardened to about 60 Rc along most of the cutting edge. As the kamis do with khukuris the edge is a little softer for about 5 or 6 inches ahead of the bolster. The sword weighs just about 2.25 pounds and feels very agile in a two handed swing. (I like it!) Although the tip does not have the traditional grind it does have the "battle bulge."

The habaki is silver soldered to the blade unlike the traditional katanas and is steel with two dragons engraved on the forward side. The tang is full length tapered and the handle, saatisal, is pinned in two spots as you might be able to see in the pix. Pommel and bolster are brass and are modestly engraved.

The scabbard is wood wrapped in top quality water buffalo leather and as you can see is literally covered with excellently done silver work. The sunar said he put 12 ounces of silver on this scabbard but he is not telling the exact truth I don't think. The scabbard weighs one pound and I figure about half of that is silver. If you look closely at the picture you can make out the "HI" on the crest.

This first model was made for a very special customer who special ordered it but prefers to keep his identity a secret at the present. I am sure after he receives and evaluates the rig he will post something about it and himself.

I was not sure how this first one was going to turn out but now it is going to become part of the standard HI line so if anybody is interested in getting one of these email but be prepared for a wait.

ME!

Wow that blade looks really nice.. I assume it performs as well as the regular Everest katana? How much is it? (yeah, like a real addict I get on the line and ask for the price after)

Put that one on the waiting list in addition to the tarwar... man Im rackin' up the list

Oh and any news on the king kobra, Uncle? Sorry I wasnt able to find more secure tape for the package I sent you..for some reason there's no masking tape handy in my house *mutter*

That is the standard Everest Katana blade (made by Kumar and so marked)made to chop thru the spine of a cow a thousand times and rip the tatsumi man or whatever they call him (Help BA!) to shreds.

The price is $495 delivered to your door.

James, if you want one email me a confirmation so I can save the email to my order file and make things legal.

I got the king kobra and I can fix that tip with little problem. Do you want the blade back after repair?

I have a question though....
How hard is the silver to keep nice looking?
I have seen pix of some really old ones with this silverwork that still looked nice, although maybe not quite as bright as the new work.
I always admire it!!!

I have silver jewelery that I mostly keep in a plastic bag where I remove as much air as possible to keep it highly polished. Of course it "has" to be "shiny" when worn with a dance outfit.
Even with that it can be a chore to keep it as it should be, but then I am old and lazy.

What is the "battle bulge" exactly?

If memory serves me correctly most of the katanas have a bit more rounded tip. Is that what you meant about it not being a "standard" tip?

¥vsa, I'm still picking up my lower jaw from the floor. And, yes, I do have another katana on order. Just an improved version of what BirGhorka is able to currently make. A partner for my prototype Everest Katana.

I'll say this much: I do know who ordered this katana, but , like Uncle Bill, will respect the buyer's privacy until the kothimoda katana has arrived and been inspected. I think that only then will the identity of the mystery buyer become known.

Until then, I join forumites waiting patiently to hear more details about this scintillating blade and scabbard combo.

Yvsa,

I was lucky enough to get a khukuri Kothimoda a few months ago and the silver is as nice and bright as when I received it. I've done nothing to it, just keep it in a display box (see pic), and the box doesn't quite close all the way, so it's not airtight. Here in Miami it tends to stay warm and humid - whatever effect that has on the silver, I don't know.

One of my concerns was the same as yours - silver upkeep, and so far? None

I am wiping the drool off my keyboard. Wow, both the Kothimodas are so very pretty. I wish I could afford a set.
In adimrience, I remain

Nice looking blade Uncle! I bet this puppy would also pass my spine cutting and "Tatami man" test targets. The H.I. Kothimoda sure does look good! Saving for the time being............

Yvsa, I don't know anything about maintaining silver. All mine is tarnished! I do know that will all the little canyons and crevices on this silverwork I would not want the task of polishing it daily!

BA, I think this blade would most certainly go through the cow spine and tear the Tatami man (thanks. I called him a Tatsumi which I think is a tidal wave) to bits. Kumar got a very good do on it.

We have a couple of orders but be prepared to wait. The sunar will spend about a month on the scabbard.

DUH ... (pauses to wipe the drool off his keyboard)

That is a pretty blade. 495$ huh ... (pauses to wipe the tears off of his keyboard)

Hmmm ... Is food really that important??

a $350 version? What's the difference in quality of the sword?

Something tells me I may be better served by saving $145

Definitely waiting to see the pic!

That certainly is a beauty, Bill. So is your Kothimoda, Nick. I generally prefer users but these are very tempting.
