The BK11 mini chef mod. FINISHED! Pics And It Did Happen!

Great job Mike!

If you can make it to the cabin in May I would love to see this in person. Either that or bring it to the next gathering.

Sweet man that turned out really nice looking. That is a good idea to modify an existing knife. Looks like it was a fun project. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Duct tape sheath.

Knife looks great.

Thanks for the tip....and thank you to everyone else who has posted such generous compliments. Finally finished the sheath for this project; wanted something that would feel better against my skin than plastic. So I gave a hybrid sheath a shot. I need a better eyelet setting setup...this one , even in the drill press, doesn't do too fantastic of a job (because I'm sure I'm not messing up ;)). Other than that, I'm pleased with how it came out...now I'll have to carry it for a while to see what else I can do to improve the next one.

Kydex side:

Leather side (you can see some of the eyelets split):

Action shot (my beverage of choice this evening):

Now I gotta do some workshop tidying and get ready for the next project, which I'm thinking will be my 7...and a bread knife kit (blade and rivets, needs a handle) I've been sitting on for a while now. Picked up some really interesting wood at Woodcraft the other day. Stay tuned......

I like the hybrid sheath! Retention pretty solid?

It is kydex, and the scales swell toward the blade for something to snap onto, so....yeah. Pretty solid, but I haven't EDC'd it yet. I don't think it's going to fall out, though. The leather is actually glued to one side of the kydex so that's what is resting against my body (or shirt). Didn't want plastic up against me, but I like the retention of it. This seemed like a way to have the best of both. We'll see how it holds up in the long run.

Thanks for clarifying - I was wondering if it was one side kydex / opposite leather - or if the leather was bonded on.
Thinking outside the box to get just what you want!

Looks great, Mike. I'm jealous of your scales. I want mine removable, and I purposely tried to use the provided holes in the tang instead of the cutouts. But yours is just so pretty!

That turned out awesome man. Really nice work. I think once the blade gets a patina on it, it'll look even better. A vinegar soaked blade would have been cool too.
