Lovely photos, Lawrence.
That part of the US is very beautiful.
How old are the dogs? The Ridgeback looks great. Is the little guy a Portuguese Water Dog?
gmoneyluv,
Thanks. Duffy was born 5-27-10 and Ben 11-22-10. Duffy is a "designer dog" called a Schnoodle, half miniature poodle and half miniature schnauzer. At a time when I was hiking with two Ridgebacks, Susan who could still get out a bit at the time wanted a "lap dog." I knew that I would eventually end up taking care of whatever she got and so we "negotiated." Duffy was a very good find. He would be small enough (he used to weigh about 20 pounds but I think he's put on a couple of pounds) to be a lap dog. In fact he loves laps. But when I'm getting ready to go on a hike he wants to go. And since he has been hiking his whole life he is very woods-savvy.
Ben was owned by a breeder in New York who "finished him" and then made him a "grand champion," so he is a very good example of the breed. Because I was on a Ridgeback forum and had discussed the loss of my two female Ridgebacks, this breeder offered me Ben. Apparently successfully competing breeders don't keep their champions once their competition days are over. As to keeping him to breed? They keep frozen semen nowadays. I was delighted to get him.
