I ordered a knife (Cold Steel Spartan) and a sharpener from The Blade Shop on 07/06/2010, the item was listed as "IN STOCK" on their website. My credit card was promptly charged.

After a week of waiting I logged into my account on their website and found my order to be "BACK ORDERED" to my surprise. I called customer service and was told that the knife will be in 2 weeks and they will ship them then. I asked why my credit card was charged when the item is back ordered and was told that it's "their business practice to charge first, and at any time I can ask for a refund if I wish to cancel my order." Feeling somewhat assured I didn't cancel my order and waited.

I called again after waiting for 2 weeks and was told that it will be "just 1 more week" before they will receive the knife from the manufacture due to the short supply from Cold Steel.

I waited another 2 weeks and still didn't get my order. I checked their website which indicates that the knife I ordered is "IN STOCK". At this point I began feeling that I've been duped into a scam and called The Blade Shop to cancel my order and get a refund. The guy who answered the phone was rude and all he said was "it's canceled" and hung up on me.

I waited another week and checked my credit card, to my surprise again, I did not receive a credit to my account and I was furious. So after a 2 month debacle with The Blade Shop I opened a dispute with my credit card company on 09/05/2010 and it has not resolved as of today 09/27/2010 because apparently The Blade Shop is "investigating my claim".

By no means am I defending The Blade Shop but where do you see on their website of any item as being listed "In Stock" or "Out Of Stock"? Everyone always starts out by saying the item was listed in stock. I have looked and looked and have never seen this. Why would anyone who visits this forum buy from them is beyond my thought process.

I actually tried to post a link to the big blade shop thread in my signature line to help increase awareness about these crooks and got smacked down by the mods for "advertising" in my signature.

I went back on their website and I can't find the "In Stock" icon anywhere. I swear I remember seeing it somewhere but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. Perhaps I assumed that it was in stock because the "Add to Cart" icon was available above the "add to wish list" icon.

they are just your average drop shipper, i've only had good experiences, but i can visit them if i ever have a real issue......they were wrong for hanging up on you, but i would say the problem is that CS has already shipped the product their way( or says they have)

I too just finished up a nightmare with these POS crooks. They have I believe 272 complaints on the BBB website. 182 of them haven't been resolved! I contacted the Knoxville PD internet fraud unit and filed a report.. To make things even better, I have been receiving fraudulent charges on my card... First time ever this has happened!

Stay far away. This is the first time I have purchased a knife without practicing due diligence.. Big mistake!

Is this place in Knoxville TN?
Do they have a store,I have not heard of them and I know most of the store fronts with knives in this area.

Hello u812,
Did you go by the place? Is it a store or a distribution center? I've done business with them and never had a problem. Now I'm not sure if I want to buy from them any more.
John

I did but it was dark.It looked to me to be more of a distribution center.
If you really zoom in on the Google map you get a street view.Security fence and only two cars.

Wow! I had them on my favorites since they had a knife I wanted for cheap. After reading this I looked up reviews on their site. They are the worst of any place I have seen that is still in business. Link deleted and site avoided in the future.

Thank guys!!

I've heard mostly bad stuff about them. I took them out of my favorite list and unsubscribed from their emails a while ago. There are a lot of good suppliers out there. If you want any recommendations send me a pm, but I'm sure you already have a list of reputable knife companies.

Based on an experience I had with them this is standard operating procedure. It took me a month to get my card credited after I filed a dispute.

I've bought several knives from the Blade Shop w/o a hiccup.

They're dropshippers but knowing how they operate, I always call in and speak to a Rep to make sure they have the knife physically in hand or to call and be sure their vendor is in stock and ready to ship.

This has worked for me doing about 10 Benchmade & Spydercos over the years.

I don't go there anymore since they no longer have super cheap prices like they did a few years ago, so why risk getting nailed?

If you check Benchmade.com they are a dealer and it lists their address. I can also find it by reverse checking their domain name with whois. I did in the past but don't care to do it right now. There's how to find out where their physical presence is. WTH, looks like they went and changed their domain to private so people can't track them down anymore.....lol

Yup, same address as on their "About Us" page.

Slippery buggers!

I waited weeks and weeks with the same story over and over. Finally asked for a refund and of course it was more weeks. I contacted the Knoxville chamber of commerce and while they were sympathetic they had no power. The BBB acknowledged their terrible rating but no power. I finally contacted my Attorney General Lisa Madigan of Illinois and she sent them a letter. I got my refund instantly. I would never roll them dice again.

In one these TBS horror threads, I posted that I've had about 10 good transactions with them. Being an e-tailer myself - I always read the fine print first. In their case I simply called the contact number and told them to check & be sure if the knife was in stock. I said if not and I don't have it within a week, I'll hit you with (these are magic words brother knife nuts) a chargeback. I got immediate answers about availability and my goods always arrived with 3 to 5 business days. Yay blade shop - get some!

A chargeback, regardless of the amount in dispute, causes a merchant to go through hours of supporting documentation, faxing in of orders, tracking numbers and other stuff, proving that he did in fact do everything he was supposed to do on his end. Anything short of a perfect response means loss of his funds (which have already been frozen btw) and his merchandise. Trust me those words cut through a lot of red tape! :D
