My understanding is that this coating is so thin that it will not cover up scratches. Of course I haven't had mine done yet. I am just passing on what I have read in other threads.

I have had two blades coated with Boron Carbide.
It will not cover grind lines, scratches, marks, or writing on the blade.
btw, this stuff is very hard to scratch
A blasted finish (pre-coating) will have a matte black look, while a satin finish will have a shinier blue/black look-based on mine...
