The box , how important is a knife box??

To me, the box is not important at all. Not to mention they can take up a lot of space epending upon the size of your collection/accumulation.
However, I am not a "collector". I understand at least some of them value the daRn box as much as, or more than, the knife itself.
(I'm not sure why. Do they display the knife in or on the box?)

My knife tastes have changed so much over the years, that unless I am absolutely, positively going to keep and use the knife and feel at no point will I sell it, then I ditch the box.

For the last two years, I've been keeping boxes. One, several of my knives come with a taco pouch, and its just easier to keep in the box and stack. Also, when I travel, having it in the box, in the pouch, makes it less noticeable, especially if it is a lesser known brand.

WE and Civivi boxes are very plain, so it I decide to bring a knife on a trip, I'll stick in the pouch and box, then inside one of my size 14's.

So, it depends on how many knives you have, if you travel, and how much you use each knife.

Selling a knife that is rare or expensive having the box and anything else that came with it can be a great selling point. Older knives that are out of production very important. I have seen older pens, watches, knives that had the box and anything else that came with it plus the sales receipt get more interest when being sold.
I just buy knives to use......cost $200 or less. I also don't sell knives I just give them away.

I dont go out of my way to keep a box, but I dont immediately chuck it in the trash.

I have never sold a knife in my life. Gifted, sure. Traded for whatever someone wanted to send me based on what they felt the knife was worth, yep. However, I buy knives to either use or collect. If a knife in my collection isn't doing it for me, it just kind of sits at the bottom of the drawer until it grows on me or I stumble across someone who could appreciate it more than I do.

The boxes are great for collecting, I suppose. I usually only run across them when I am cleaning out my truck. I generally will purchase a knife locally and just "wear it home" in my pocket. The box and paperwork gets tossed in the backseat, then makes its way to the floorboard and finally nests under one of the seats ;). Ill usually move it to the garage then and set it on my workbench. Eventually it will get crushed by something or I will find it again and realize that I have already gifted that knife away, and it will finally make the 2' journey to the garbage bin next to my workbench.

I bought a '70s vintage "garage find" Buck 112 last year and cannot bring myself to use it (I have three other 112s anyway). Original box and ps and sheath should raise the value considerably so of course I will keep them all.

I generally keep the boxes, anyway, though.

I have a box of boxes. When I'm gone my boys will have fun matching the knives to their respective boxes.:)

60 some years after I got my first knife - you betcha there's plenty of the boxes they all came in that I'd love to have.

If the knife is collectible then I keep the box/papers/tube/pin/etc on the chance I might need/want to sell them someday. For my every day users I'm using for yardwork no I don't keep the boxes :)

I'd prefer to get the box with the knife I buy, specially with knives that cost more than $200 (most of what I buy these days). I keep boxes for the same reason, in case I decide to sell any of them, buyer may appreciate it.

I've seen listings online of people selling only the box.

Makes you wonder...... maybe I should just collect boxes.

"Here in this closet is my knife collection"
"Oh wow, look at all those boxes, can we see em?"
"No, sorry, then they wouldn't be NIB".
