Several months ago I read about a fast opening technique for manual folders called the Brownie Pop. Yes, it was developed by the "Brownie" you read here on Blade Forums.

I was surprised, the Brownie Pop is easy to learn and it is very fast. As Brownie says, "No wasted motion or loss of time, good gross motor skill that won't fall apart under stress." I've found the technique works great with the BM 710 and even easier with the BM 806 and BM 941.

Is this when you just do a motion that flicks the blade open from a closed position? Like a quick forward motion to pop out the blade and then you pull back to flick it open. Kind of like you're cracking a whip? I remember my friend doing this with his Spyderco 15 years ago. I don't Brownie invented it. :)

The Brownie of this forum did not invent this technique. It has been around for 15 years or more. The most recent posting on this subject started a war here. Let's not re-open that can of worms.

I suggest you drop Brownie a note. I think he will send you the directions on how to do the technique.

Brownie was kind enough to share his technique with me awhile back. It is very different. It also works very well. A smooth fast opening without the damage that can be caused by wrist snapping a blade open. Thanks again Brownie.

I tried to get in on the e-mails the last time this was up, but no one noticed. Would someone please send instructions on the technique to kmalo@charter.net? I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Well then, I would love to learn Brownie's technique. :) If it works well and is something I've never seen before I will forever refer to it as the "Brownie Technique" :)

Can you email me the directions Brownie?

Brownie-

If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to benefit from your technique as well.

Thanks in advance.

there's a section on the CRK site that warns against "flicking", as it may accelerate mechanism wear. oh well, i guess the joy of the flick is worth it, huh? perhaps the brownie pop is a gentle technique? i'm curious too.

I must be a retard. I sat here and read all of the success stories from when he was hooking everyone up with the e-mails. I also requested one and just didn't get it. I must need a short video or diagram or something :D It would be easier to see what I was doing wrong if an open discussion about it was alright, but I guess this is to be kept underwraps  :(

If you would like it, send me an email to bladesrus@comcast.net

This has been around before on the forum as others have mentioned. I do not openly publish this on the interent, if you ask for it I would ask that you not also.

TheBadGuy: Email me again, I have something for you.

You're right Rich...the Brownie POP does work better with certain knive's. I have been able to POP all my knives but it seems that the more expensive the knife the better POP I get. Love POPing my Strider SNG, sounds like a whip as it cracks open! Thanks again Brownie!
