The "Buck 110" of the 21st century?

All those Spyderco's and others in FRN/Zytel?

The first knife I think that used that for handle material was the Gerber L.S.T. ( not sure what year)

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. If correct , I think that was a major turning point in knife manufacturing.

I wouldn't say Sebenza or Military or Paramilitary. Most people would balk at paying $100 for a para, so why more for knives that only knife guys hunt after? I'm inclined to agree with the Delica. Not so much the Endura. So, I say Delica and 110.

The most common knives I see are clipped to a pocket (I ask almost everybody what they are carrying), so I would have to say the modern "110" would be a clipped, one hand opening folder- and to me the epitome us the Delica, also what I thought of immediately when reading the title. Around here one only sees a belt sheath on older gentlemen. I rarely have a belt on unless in the bush so I (and many others) have little use for a sheath based folder. To me the answer is simple, and I don't especially care for the Delica/Endura line.

I WOULD say the Delica were it not for the fact that the most common knives from big name makers I see in people's pockets are the Leek and Paraframe.

Hehe now on to what is the "112" of the 21st century :D... actually I think the Endura/Delica line is the 110/112 line of today now but with so many choices out there now I don't mind owning several "new 110's" :p

I almost talked Andrew Demko into building a Tri Ad lock 110.
That would be bad ass

It's a tough question since the Buck 110 offered alot to the knife world. No single knife that I can think of accomplished what the 110 did. I mainly see non-knife people carry a Gerber. Likewise, the military gives the recruits a Gerber multi-tool to use. Back in the day the 110 was popular with the soldiers and everyday people. Buck's innovations would match what Spyderco has done. Buck is still selling 110s after all these years, and the SAK would be the only company that would match sales. So it's hard to pin down one knife that offered as much as the 110, it really is an awesome knife.

i would say the delica/endura line. while the griptilian is nice i prefer my delica. they are cheap, thin, light and have decent steel.

Ontario RAT folder is a simple workhorse from simple materials, the same price with 110. Very popular in our knife-o-holic community.

I would agree with the spyderco delica and endura if they were in every Joe's pocket, and in the everyman's department store. I have never seen a casual knife user with a Spyderco. If I see someone with ANY spyderco, he or she is a knife person.

I''l agree with all those of you who said the 110 is still the 110.

I was just watching a law and order type show the other day. One of the suspects was a construction worker. When the police interviewed him they noticed a sheath on his belt. "We're going to need to see that, sir"

It was a Buck 110.

If not that one, then the Paraframe. I've sharpened a blue million of them both for the non-knife crowd.

There's alot of ways to look at this question. This is my way of seeing it.

I have a non knife friend who doesn't even feel safe using that knife- he traded it for a buck vantage

I wouldn't use a paraframe to clean my fingernails.... But I love the evo

I'd have to go with the Endura/Delica. A few decades ago the Buck 110 might have been the most common knife seen worn around. These days it's probably the Delica/Endura. Gen 3 ones too. Yeah, they're "obsolete" with the Gen 4s available now (and for a few years), but Gen 3s are the ones I still see sticking out of people's pockets. I haven't seen a single Gen 4 in anybody's pocket but my own.

I carry an endura 1 :P

So how do you guys think Buck's 110 compares to Spyderco's "110"? (we'll settle at it being the Endura 4) And which do you prefer and why?

The Buck 110 is still that knife even today and I doubt anything will ever really replace it.

It's so well known that even non knife people know what you are talking about when the term Buck Knife is used.

The other one that is that well known is the Swiss Army Knife.

I just realized I've never owned or held a 110- WTF? I have a 112 I've had for years but no 110.... Hmmm

Absolutely the FRN Spyderco Delica/Endura. The Sydie hole, pocket clip, and high quality steels changed the industry.

I carry my FFG Delica with me everyday! I am not sure what would be the modern 110 though. I don't see a lot of people that even know about Spyderco.

I'm going to go a completely different direction. The only modern thing I've seen which had the same impact (and spawning the same number of copies) as the Buck 110?

The Leatherman Multitool. Period.
